Sports Illustrated ranks Louisville 17th, highlights Pitino/Calipari rivalry
Sports Illustrated's college basketball preview issue doesn't hit news stands until next Monday, but because we're Card Chronicle and every piece of sports writing published anywhere has to go through us before it can be viewed by the public, we've got the goods on what the publication has to say about the '09-'10 Louisville Cardinals.
SI tabs Louisville as the 17th best team in the country and highlights Edgar Sosa in its preview of the Cards. Grant Wahl also pens a feature on John Calipari coming to Kentucky and his icy relationship with "the state's other big ego," Rick Pitino.
Both are solid reads and are available for you to check out below (Update: Links should be fixed).

Hype can do some amazing things
But the reality of the situation is a team of freshmen aren’t gonna be cutting down the nets in April. I think last night’s game between Kentucky and Miami, OH brought at least a portion of blue nation back down to earth. No top 5 team should ever, ever struggle to that degree against a team like the Redhawks. Not that Miami weren’t game, but the Cats have no idea how to play perimeter defense yet. And in my opinion it’s gonna be a long road between now and where they want to be.
Out-Pitino Rick Pitino? Mr. Cal, it’s gonna take several stellar recruiting classes to assemble a team better than the Untouchables, my friend.

I can't wait until the NCAA finds...
another violation under Calipari’s watch and then they get to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, fore-fleshing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is!
Hallelujah!
Holy shit.!

I think it is funny how after UK beat an awful Miami of Ohio team, they (UK fans) think that proves that they are back and will beat North Carolina in the Championship and John Wall will be the MVP and #1 draft pick

I say
we stay focused on our team and not worry about all the hoopla down the road too much. All the hate won’t get us anywhere.
There is a lot of hype and the blue zombie nation is drinking more kool-aid than they did when Pitino was there. Right now Jim Jones errrr Calipari is the pied piper and could take the lemmings right over the cliff if he wanted. Things will calm down there at some point.
That being said, they are very talented (and very young) and a squaker against Miami (OH) in November isn’t really a big deal. They should have a good to very good team come March. Whether you can get 4 freshman starters and Patterson to ‘win it all’ is a whole other matter (it’s daunting with 5 All-American seniors).
Hey, let’s cheer hard for the Cards tonight. I am very excited about this team. The three guard starting five, the great shooting, Preston’s heart, full court press, playing hard for 60 minutes, the possibility of Samuels/Jennings together, last year at Freedom Hall PEYTON SIVA!!!
GO CARDS!!!!!!!!
