Around SBN: Tiger Woods Makes His 2012 PGA Tour Debut

THIS IS IT!

After a couple of exhibition games to get us in the mood we are finally here.  We love our Cardinal football, baseball, soccer, etc., BUT this is what us in the Commonwealth look forward to.  College ball is here.  I am pumped even with all the suspensions in the Arkansas team.  To honor the official start of the UofL basketball season I thought I would treat everyone to a song to get us deep into the mood.  I chose to go with this youtube 'still' version instead of the 'action' video because this album cover just rocks.  I think it should be a photo for a game thread sometime this season.  It's like he's saying, "I have the fire and I'm giving it to you Cardinals.  Go ahead and keep the fire".  It's the unofficial song of Cardinal basketball.  Cheesy soft rock?  Yeah.  Guilty pleasure?  Nope.  Proud fan of this.     Isn't it inspiring?

GO CARDS!!!

pumped as well, but not quite the song of choice for me. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Twisted, you had to be there, the 1st time around...

…it truly was magical. Not quite the same today. I hope this season can be just as magical.

It was meant to be a funny

but tone is obviously lost without the nonverbals in e-mail. But hey, it’s a fun throwback to get us in the mood. I still love that montage at the end of the 1980 championship game. Sure the song is cheesy and Kenny is cheesy, but still…

This was the theme song for the 1980 championship run

We played it at my grandma’s funeral… yeah, my family likes UofL

That was the song.....

I guess only we oldtimers appreciate exactly what it meant. When I hear it I can still see Darryl running up the court getting ready for a jam that brought us all out of our seats. It will always be (in this oldtimers’ mind anyway) OUR Championship Song….however, having said that, I am SO ready for a newer, hipper song if we can just get there again……

I'm not sure if I'm an old timer

I was seven years old in 1980. However, I do have an appreciation of the the team, the song related to the team, the video montage, etc. It think we should all remember how we got to where we are now and that includes going back to the beginnings of the rise with Coach Hickman and everything before and after. Our hip songs today won’t seem so hip in 20 years time, but they all have meaning and add to our history and tradition.

about 50% serious

It’s just a goofy song that has a specific reference point. There should be a little bit of all Card fans that can appreciate the song because of that.
