Eric Crawford digs Card Chronicle

During your live chat last Thurs, you mentioned that you occasionally scan blogs. How much credit do people like Jurich and Klein give to blogs and how much time do you think players and coaches spend reading them? I thought it was interesting K.Klein recently called out a blog for reporting false info while simultaneously giving credit to the blogisphere’s affect on his program’s public perception. Thoughts?

Eric Crawford:
I know most of the bloggers who do any kind of regular work on U of L or UK. Not all of them, but probably most. I look at some more than others. Mike Rutherford does a great job on U of L, in particular.

I think people in college sports are trying to figure out how to proceed with the blogosphere. U of L has been pretty progressive in giving blogs credentials where possible. I think they have done that hoping that the bloggers would take that as a responsibility to follow some basic rules of journalism.

I think it’s all a process in evolution. I read a lot of blogs — more national than local. I have a lot of respect for people who do it well.

The respect is mutual…actually I’m almost positive I have far more respect for Eric than he does for me. Dude can write and on top of that he works very hard.

Crawford = not terrible

Crawford has been growing on me. To explain, I’ll reference the Kragthorpe Theory: We hated Petrino when he left but now that we’ve experienced Krag’s demoralizing stint at the helm, most fans view Petrino as a patriarch of UL FB for leading us from GMAC Bowls to the Orange Bowl.

Thus, in the last few years, Bozich has gradually turned into one of those out-of-touch veteran coaches, someone who still draws a loyal following because of his name/reputation but can’t relate to his readers as well as he used to. Bozich’s seemingly lapdog avoidance of UL Football’s obvious demise, for example, has most Cardinal fans wondering whose best interests are at stake. Contrastingly, Crawford has looked more and more poignant and refreshingly readable as he consistently holds Kragthorpe’s feet closer and closer to the fire for his lack of success since Petrino skipped town.

CC is superior to the CJ

I’ve been out of TheVille for 26 years now. I’ve watched the CJ shrink to a sliver of a newspaper from afar. These days I log onto Card Chronicle every morning to get my “insider info” & a wee bit of Mike’s sarcasm. On this site all the raw feelings of UofL fans are laid out there that the CJ just can’t do & never will. When the CJ finally disappears, Crawford might be looking to blog on here too.

In the same boat here...

The difference with CC starts at the top. Mike’s passion will never be in doubt, but he tempers that passion with reason and a healthy dose of sarcasm, which always keeps me coming back for more.

Well said...

…From another displaced Cardinal fan and former CJ reader.

True and...

CC is one of my first stops in the morning – almost every day. I quickly realized the candor and satire, with a realistic touch of objectivity towards all things UofL sports fed my need from afar.

So, in the light of CC candor and objectivity, I feel the need to call out Mike for this post – isn’t this self aggrandizement below you?

CC is very deserving of the accolades.

Crawford also does a great job. I tend to enjoy this site much more that Crawford’s blog or the CJ, but in fairness to Crawford, Mike has a lot more freedom to do things than Crawford. Cussing, overt sarcasm, open worship of Preston Knowles and Art Carmody. I get the feel from Crawford that he’d really excel in this atmosphere as well, but he fills the professional role very well and has many insightful columns. Plus, he probably likes that paycheck a bit more.

But as Mike pointed out a while back, there is a reason that blogs and web-based content are taking over. They fit more with the nature in which we view our sports. I can watch a game alone but if I’m on the game thread, it feels like I’m shooting the shit with my friends.

So glad I stumbled on this site...

because it is the single best UofL blog and news source, period.

And just to let Mike know...

… I also have CC sent to my Amazon Kindle. I can’t get enough CC.

You know

There always has to be one. The guy who just can’t be sincere and has to make the “actually I think the exact opposite” joke.

Congratulations…dick.

Thank you?

Is the guy who makes the exact opposite joke making the list of things you hate next year?

I feel like the guy who

spilled his drink on the hosts girlfriend and ruined the party. I actually and figuratively did this tonight, and I’m sorry everyone. Don’t hate me, I like you all very much

Mike

This article reminds me, we have to get the ball rolling on me getting a press pass for CC after graduation
