Open Thread: Louisville at Conncticut
Apologies for the lack of a game day thread.
Here's a quick summary: My excitement level is 2.0, I'm playing in a charity golf scramble and won't actually be able to watch the game, and I think we're going to lose by a substantial amount.

It's cold up there and this picture's awesome, so it works.

I dunno, I'm pretty pumped...
…for being able to switch back and forth between OU/UT and our game. Nothing like quality football in the sun in front of 100,000 people in stunning HD…..and then our game….on WHAS….in negative def.
Score predictio
For the record, I’m goin’ 30-10.

I say we keep it close..
and lose by ~10….low scoring affair, 21-10 or 17-7, something like that.

Also
I’m wearing a Cards pullover to the scramble, so, there’s that.
Enjoy the game everyone.

Allow me to be "that UofL fan"
We’re going to win 21-18.
I’ll eat those words later, but I’m feeling it today.
OUCH
OU/UT is NOT in HD because we’re on ABC, so they are showing it on the CW, which, despite being an HD channel on Insight, is in SD for some reason.
Gross.
"game time decision"
Pulled himself out of practice Tuesday, didn’t practice Wednesday.
Anyone care to change their prediction?

This is bullshit
ESPN360 says the game is subject to regional blackout. I’m in Florida, how am I in the region?
They said Pace wasn't ready....
…but he was 5 yards off the guy who was 2 yards past the first down line….so that seems like he is perfectly in tune with our secondary’s game plan.
Yep.
Stop on first and second down, then let them run right up the middle for a 16 yard TD.
I swear, we look clueless out there.
Still asleep...
..these cold noon games in front of small crowds have to be the toughest to get pumped for as a player, especially in the middle of a season like this, especially when the offense gives it away on the third play of the game.
Pretty much a replay of what happened vs Byu
He got sacked and went down right on his right shoulder
Basketball
Update on Rick Pitno’s website about the basketball cards, anyone catch it
There's an oldie but a goodie...
…underneath route to the tallest WR on the team. Haven’t seen that one since 2007.
Eh..
…I am one of the most anti-Krag people out there and it has literally no bearing on whether I go to Kroger.
That commercial is ridiculous though.

Screw this..as if this game couldnt get any worse
Tom Jurich says “Steve is my guy”
Chaz Thompson
That ball was uncatchable. I guess that’s better than taking a chance on a sure TD if he catches it.
"My guy"
I think he just has to say that. He’s his guy until he resigns.
These announcers are also saying that Kragthorpe does a good job calling plays and that the offense was top 10 in 2007 and it was the defense’s fault we went 6-6 in 2007.
It’s all spin and none of it matters.
Well, technically, that's true.
But it was Petrino’s offense.
We all see how good the offense has been since then. Oh wait…
I seem to remember....
..the offense sucking most of the game, and then when we were in catch-up mode, going no-huddle with Brohm to Harry mostly and getting a lot of yards/points in those situations.
The defense wasn’t good, for sure, but the offensive stats didn’t really tell the story of our season.
by CardsFan922 on Oct 17, 2009 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't think it sucked.
I just think that it wasn’t quite up to snuff with what we were used to. It was still good, but it’s hard to be bad with that much talent. So maybe “underachieving” is a better word for it.
maybe this is TJ’s way of suppporting the Coach….all the while behind the scenes KragCooperthorpe has agreed to step down
by bigdawgul57 on Oct 17, 2009 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions
No.
I just don’t see any justification after this season. These games are a mess, and Louisville fans will give up for good if we have to take this another year. There’s too much money to be lost by keeping CSK around.
If we ran a full spread offense...
..maybe that would be good, but cardscott is right, he isn’t a downfield threat.

Best play we have!
Throwing to the RB out of the backfield.
Followed by a No. 1 on first down.
I would love to play NCAA 2010 against Kragthorpe.
Why does Krags hate Darius Ashley so much?
He’d rather put an obviously injured Vic Anderson over him?
I fucking hate this guy.
A home field advantage
not with you as coach
Powell...
….how many carries is that so far? He’s going to be exhausted unless Ashley plays some or we have to throw every play in the 2nd half.
Scott Long!
Perfect play call on third and short – underneath for the number of yards needed for a first down.
thank goodness
i was expecting an option to the short side of the field….lets score
That was nice escapability.
Did anybody see Burke on the sideline with the lumberjack beard and mustache?
Is he not shaving until Krag gives him another chance?
That would be pretty cool.
by CardsFan922 on Oct 17, 2009 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I know right?
Doesn’t it seem like it should be like 21-7 now?
Even in moderate success, Krag finds a way to make it feel bad.
He actually explained it in the interview on Hell in the Hall.
I don’t remember the reason, but it basically makes him more accurate somehow. Mostly a preference thing.
Well that tie was fun while it lasted
all 2 minutes of it
I found the game on Justin TV
Here. But you guys are psychic, because you comment about things before they happen. …or maybe there’s a delay.
Crap
For some reason I’m being forced to watch a replay of that last Uconn scoring drive. This is going to suck

I'm just gonna call this color guy Verne Lundquist.
Because he obviously can’t pronounce names properly.
Also did you catch when they were doing highlights of..
…UConn he was talking about the women’s player dunking and they showed a highlight of Stanley Robinson dunking, but he was like, “there’s the video” or whatever.
maybe he should try a shoe
then follow it up with a kick out of bounds….awful
I've never understood how you miss an XP.
I’ll cut the guy some slack because of last week, but I’m so confused.
We’re just finding ways to lose now.
And then the kickoff
goes out of bounds.
That’s why I try not to get too excited, even though our offense is moving the ball really well today.
This game is going OK.
I firmly believe that we would be at least 3-2 looking at 4-2 if we still had Ron English.
But the fact that we are losing to a team that was D2 within the decade is so depressing.
whats going on
doing game cast on ESPN and it’s been frozen aty 20-7 UConn for 10 minutes. Doesn’t seem to match what I see here.
It's 14-13 UConn at half
Maybe espn gave UConn credit for a pick 6 when a sure pick went right through the Safety’s hands and the Notcha caught it for a long gain on an eventual TD drive.
Glad that we are staying tough today.
But this is some ugly football. Can you imagine any watching this game who isn’t a pretty strong fan of either team?
Most of the FANS aren't even watching, so I can't imagine anyone else is...
…Kroger must be only paying like $5/per Krag commercial to run.
Maybe if it were a Wednesday or Friday night.
But Saturday afternoon at the same time as OU-UT? Not a chance.
I went the mall here in Sarasota yesterday to look for a new Cards hat.
The guy working in Sports Fan-Attic said “We actually have several people that ask for Louisville stuff. I don’t know why?” I resisted the urge to punch him, and just said “We won the Orange Bowl three years ago. …Two Basketball NC’s.” I bought one of the three hats they had …rescued it really.

Bilal and Adam looked good in the first half
(minus Adam’s 1 and 1/2 picks), but Powell isn’t going to be able to carry the ball 18 more times this game. If Vic is hurt, Ashley needs to get some carries quickly, or even Tronzo. But this is too much for Powell. I think he has 3 Recs. as well.
Pre-season
We kept hearing about all three splitting carries. Vic got out there for like 4 plays (which doesn’t make sense if he is hurt?) and Ashley hasn’t been out there at all.
I know Powell was running well, but that maybe had something to do with the line / UConn defense?
He did the same thing with Anthony Allen in 2007. Remember the MTSU game?
I was thinking about the MTSU game.
I’d think Krag had learned his lesson, but maybe not.
Maybe Vic got hurt this week, but Ashely has looked good.
I am interested to see how we come out in the second half
Hopefully we dont have another Pittsburgh flop. His halftime adjustments (or lack thereof) has always been one of my largest issues with the Kragthorpe regime.
Ball control seems to be the M.O. today. I think he needs to leverage Froman’s ability to scramble to expand the play action game to the deeper third of the field
I don't know...
…if Froman really has the arm strength or accuracy to go downfield that far.
Overall the offense has actually been good today….UConn seems to suck as well.
Totally understand your side
My thoughts are this…we keep throwing underneath, and UCONN seems to be jumping the underneath route…play fake the short receiver and take a shot 20 – 25 yds down the field
Much like i was saying
He goes play action, but to a deeper receiver
That's a perfect depth..
…thought you meant like vertical way down field. That was a nice ball, in the 10-15 yard range.
Ugh..
….on that end-zone look, these announcers are CERTAIN that his knee was down, and it looked like his knee was NOT down. These guys are idiots.
I liked the play calling to start the half.
Never thought I’d say that.
Here comes the real UL
Turnovers….penalties…and blank kragthorpe stares
hahahaha
i think that was raglin…who is biting on body fakes at the 2 yd line
thats on coaches….that close to the goalline, any split second of indecision costs you….you have to move forward, be agressive, and hit through the ball carrier….as it is, we bite on fakes, and the guy tip toes into the end zone
Guy was like..
…uh, Jacque, what are you doing? I catch the ball every time?
And a nice return brought back by holding.
It feels like I’m watching a recording on Tivo. I keep hitting “Return to Live TV” but it won’t let me exit this recording!
2nd and 3 timeout
11 minutes in 2nd half…drives me insane
He fumbled at UK also...
..and he only had like 10 carries that day.
But yes, it made a guy with potential fumble problems MORE likely to do so.
I don’t understand how Darius Ashley is not on the field.
Its offcial
NCAA called they have offcially renamed turnovers…kragovers

usually, its coaching...no halftime adjustments
today, turnovers, plain and simple
With as slow as our secondary is,
I would think a switch to a 3-4 or 3-3-5 would be in order. Especially considering we can’t really get pressure on the QB anyway. Maybe that would help with the zone we play EVERY FUCKING DOWN.
You would think they would do something to cover up the fact
the secondary is awful and our pass rush sucks. We have a couple of decent linebackers, but they can’t cover people in zones
Nice stop on 2nd and 3rd and short...
…UConn surprised they can’t just run for it.
Stopping the FG would give us a chance.
If Darius Ashley doesn't get the ball this possession, I'm going to punch Kragthorpe.
I don’t know how, when, or where, but it’s going to happen.
Anyone want to wager
who fumbles on this drive?

Kragthorpe calling a good game....
….sorta. He called a competent game, but as 83Fan pointed out, his other decision making has been awful.
ALSO they keep pointing out we had 500 yards of offense last year against UConn. So maybe their defense just isn’t that good.
Getting out of hand...
…for the love of god, where is Darius Ashley?
And I really hope the “Powell in funk after UK fumble in 2008” thing doesn’t happen again after two fumbles today.
None of their scoring drives have taken more than 6 plays and 2 minutes.
We suck. Very very very very badly.
