Open Thread: Louisville vs. Southern Mississippi

Southern Miss. Golden Eagles at Louisville Cardinals, Oct 10, 2009 7:30 PM EDT

Enthusiasm at an all-time low, two mediocre (?) teams, ESPNU coverage; this has all the makings of a classic open thread.

let me be the first...

To say that I am rooting for the annoucement at the end of this game.

by tnatburks on Oct 10, 2009 6:31 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

I honestly don't know how to feel

Can never root against the Cards, but what does a win do, really?

This sucks.

by Mike Rutherford on Oct 10, 2009 6:36 PM EDT reply actions

Prolongs

the inevitable.

An early resignation could yield an earlier replacement announcement which could benefit recruiting. Just imagine a ‘big name coach’ (Tuberville) that could begin to recruit indirectly much earlier.

The interim coach does his job for six more weeks and then much better days are here again.

I like this scenario…it begins tonight with a loss. I don’t want to root for a loss, and I am truly conflicted about it.

I just threw up and I think it's a sign for the game

the last time I threw up the day there was a Louisville game was in 1993. I was vomit free since 93. I blame krag

That was Kragthorpe'd.

Which is a verb. Kragtastic is an adjective, and most definitely should be added to urban dictionary.

In Memphis

but will hopefully be able to at least catch the majority of the game on TV . (Though admittedly I’ll be keeping a close eye on the UF-LSU game., too) I am increibly jealous of my roommate who is going to the game and called to tell me of his hug, picture, and autograph with a certain Harry Douglass outside the stadium. Glad to be on vacation, but man do I wish I could have been there.

I think I want to avoid a loss if nothing else but because of our guys on the field. Can’t say that a blowout culminating in Kragthorpe’s firing would make me lose any sleep, however (except perhaps because of excitement).

^God that’s a lot to type on a phone…

Yeah I havent

by cardscott5 on Oct 10, 2009 7:40 PM EDT reply actions

My prediction

Southern MIss. 24 – Louisville 10. The defense plays admirably but is on the field way too much and wears down. The offense does nothing, beyond Victor Anderson rushing for 115 yards, including a 40 yard TD run. However, Krags still refuses to give him the ball when we need him to have it and the offense continually stalls. At the post-game presser, after repeatedly being asked about the offensive play-calling pulls his blame the offensive coordinator card. All of a sudden the “offensive coordinator” bursts into the presser and tells Krags to take responsibility for his own failure. Krags then fires the OC and soon the verbal altercation turns physical and Krags punches himself out, a la Tom Cable punching out his assistant coach. Krags is then committed at Central State, but surprisingly, Jurich continues to stand behind him. Unfortunately, or fortunately, he can’t fulfill his duties because a) he’s been committed and b) he says that he “fired that son of a bitch offensive coordinator” and refuses to let him back on the field. Then, in a surprise move, Jurich brings in Hal Mumme as the interim coach. The end.

Ryan Payne kicked a 32-yard field goal with 30 seconds to play to give Louisville its first win over a Football Bowl Subdivision team in nearly a year, 25-23, over Southern Mississippi on Saturday night.

Almost a year?
