I know Tim Tebow is a great kid...

But the worship doled out to him during Thursday night's championship game was nauseating.  That announcing crew was obviously out of their league, but the truth is the whole Fox production was terrible.

All the confusing numbers across the top of the screen looked like a stock market ticker. But the worst was saved for the closing moments when it became obvious Florida was going to win.  Tebow is a terrific kid and a good leader and a wonderful story, no doubt. In fact, I'm guessing he's such a good kid that the kind of high fructose corn syrup served about him by the announcers last night would probably embarrass him to the core.

These guys were so bad I found myself longing for Lindsey Nelson.  That's how bad they were.  Whatever happened to the days when game announcers actually called the game?  Please, somebody in network sports production offices, please put people in the trucks who've actually played a sport.  Please put someone in the booth with a mike and tell them to forget the personal pronouns and CALL THE DAMN GAME.

ESPN

I am so glad that ESPN is taking over the BCS duties. Although that does mean that we will be suibject to 1million ESPN BCS commercials, at least they will have broadcast a game before.

Yeah they sucked

But I didn’t mind the Tebow worship. The kid lived in a leper colony. What other D-1 athlete, much less a Heisman Trophy Winner, would choose to live in a leper colony‽

That said, the worst part was when they didn’t know what down it was. You know your bad when the NYT writes about how bad you are.

aww man. . .

Oh! How I wish SB would let us edit our posts. I wrote “your” when I meant to write “you’re.” May the grammar gods show mercy when they judge me.

Just don’t ever call Kirk Gibson, “Kurt” Gibson around Mike.

Yes

Talk about inexcusable. I was reading my son a book, and I knew what down it was. And it wasn’t just for a second he got it wrong. He was wrong for 2 straight downs and no one talked into his ear piece to say, “You’re an idiot.”

I like the

comment that “If you spend 5-15minutes with Tim Tebow you would be a better person” I had no idea Tebow was so divine that it would make me a better person just to talk to him. Maybe Tebow should give up football and start touring the country saving people. What a bunch of BS. FOXSUCKS.

Easy, Thom

"In such a cynical, sarcastic society, oftentimes looking for the negative on anybody or anything, if you’re fortunate enough to spend five minutes or 20 minutes around Tim Tebow, your life is better for it."

I mean really?

Even worse

were the references to Superman. Really? Superman? A jump pass is pretty unique, but the girly throw at the end of it should negate any reference to Earth’s adopted son.

Am I the only one who’s seen Tebow interview and thought “He’s kind’ve a douche, actually.” I for one can’t stand the look on his face.

While I've never thought that about Tebow

I did have $2 in my pocket the other day and picked up Asimov’s I, Robot and Foundation at Book and Music Exchange. I finished I, Robot and loved it, and am a few chapters into Foundation.

Actually, I've never thought that either

Tim Tebow is a great team leader and a good role model. He’s very passionate about football and his faith, and his dedication is to be commended. I’ve seen some clips of some of his speeches as well, and he’s quite inspirational.

The Superman thing is actually his nickname from his teammates. It’s not like the Fox guys just sat there and made it up because they’re in love with him.

All that being said, the Fox coverage was terrible, especially when they forgot which down it was for a solid minute (don’t they ever look at the screen… the refs show the down every play). But the Tebow praise is well deserved. He’s won two championships and led his team through two solid seasons, became the first Sophomore to win the Heisman, and gave one of the most unforgettable speeches of the last decade. He really deserves a ton of credit. It’s not to say he’ll be anything more than a practice QB or mediocre backup RB in the NFL, but he’s one of the most successful college players in history.

As an OU fan

it all aggravated me as well. My dad pointed out that Tebow was lucky, “The man won the National Championship and got 5 blowjays during the game!”

You missed on that Roz....

he is a class act kid – a winner – a champion. They were playing horrible football last night UNTIL Tim decided enough! He drove that victory. Gotta Love Him…….you just gotta !

I'm with you L

What I meant was that the guy who posted what I quoted should have been singularly alone in thinking of Tebow that way.
Take another look and you’ll see what I mean.

Tebow…like Jeter…like Tom Brady…seems to be able to do whatever it takes to win. The voices that are all over HIM for comments others made ABOUT him would be the same voices who would have been jumping all over Tim’s “guaranteed win” type speech should the Gators have come up short.

I wonder what he’ll be in the pros? Tight end, maybe. Maybe outside linebacker (!). Maybe nothing….but tell Einstein and Archie Griffin to watch out cause maybe he’ll be back for that second Heisman after all.

Good luck against ’Nova. Wish it were at the Palestra.

My problem, Ancientone

is that I’m confused when all crazy numbers on top of the screen IS the stock market ticker.
Lindsey Nelson was bad…announced as though someone had placed a joy buzzer several centemeters into his rectum. Always did the dog bowl game on New Years Day, usually the Cotton. His countenance always featured a sickly smile. Did the Mets games starting in 1962…referred to Bobby Thompson’s home run against Brooklyn as “The Shot That Will Never Stand Up To Edgars Three Pointer.”

Have a weekend, a good one.

I listened to the game on ESPN radio

and Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit were just as bad.

Kirk is

All things to all people with standards of silly puddy…think he got more bowl games wrong than I did.
