Open Thread: Louisville at South Florida

Louisville Cardinals @ South Florida Bulls

For a team that has struggled mightily away from Freedom Hall and for a program yet to taste victory in a Big East opener, being in Tampa tonight is about all you can ask for.

Black unis?

Do we ever do well in these?

by mabake02 on Jan 7, 2009 7:06 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Very much so

I want to see Earl or T-Will do that again… instead of seeing Earl have his shot returned to sender. Ugh.

by mabake02 on Jan 7, 2009 7:15 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Two quick fouls on T-will..

….looks like we’ll get some more Kuric or Delk.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 7:07 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Lotta blocks...

…with no fouls.

But SS backs someone up and he gets the offensive foul called, DC style.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 7:16 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm afraid...

….Clark won’t take another shot inside 5 feet tonight. Seriously USF has like 9 blocks already.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 7:17 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If Earl can't jump higher than guys t USF....

… he’s going to have a hard time getting his shot off in the NBA.

by mabake02 on Jan 7, 2009 7:22 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wow!!!

Terrance Jennings, Earl Clark and Reggie Delk! What a play!!! I love seeing those two guys get some time to get a chance to make a difference.

Also I love that Clark tried to slam it one handed after stealing it. He missed but that was an awesome try and he just needs to keep doing that.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 7:25 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed.....

it’ll help Earl get his confidence up.

by mabake02 on Jan 7, 2009 7:32 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

REBOUND

Getting killed on the boards against USF, even if only for a couple of minutes, is not a good sign.

by mabake02 on Jan 7, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

this half

has been uninspired. i don’t know how we haven’t shot a free throw. at least they can’t make theirs. this seems like it’s going to be a blah 15 point win.

by cardscott5 on Jan 7, 2009 7:49 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

FINALLY

One of our guys pulls a Deiner….i.e., shot-fake the 3, get the guy in the air and jump so you draw the contact.

Of course, Delk’s arm gets hacked and the ref doesn’t call it.

For some reason the last 2 minutes of the first half we let teams sneak back in. Not bad for not having T-Will most of the half and Samardo continuing his descent back to earth. I think Cardscott is right….this is going to be an ugly second half but we should pull away.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 7:52 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Damn, I forgot it was an early game. I just tuned in.

Obviously, from the comments, we are not doing too well against an average team…

by frankpos on Jan 7, 2009 7:59 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Meh..

..T-will got two quick fouls and delk played like 16 minutes of the half. The refs are acting bizarre, USF has 13 free throws, we have zero. SS got 2 fouls also. Jennings played well in relief, and Delk has played well too. USF had like 9 blocks in the first five minutes, no fouls called, and we were up 13 with about 4 minutes left in the half, then did our normal end-of-half thing where we let them back in. During that run we took a couple 3’s (although one of those, Delk got HACKED and they didn’t call it) and turned it over.

Sosa has looked good, confident, quick, etc. Took one questionable three but it was late in the shot clock. We also had a possession we got like 5 shots and missed all of them.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 8:02 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

be nice if the zebras

called the fouls equally. ZERO FTs for the visitors so far….hmmm

by twistedwedge on Jan 7, 2009 8:03 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sosa

is looking really good. He seems to have turned the corner.

Jennings

is very active. We need his shot blocking.

Exhausting...

…what a pace. That was three minute of up, down, back, forth, etc. If Jerry had hit that three on the break when T-will found him in the corner I may have overreacted embarrassingly.

Anyway, during that back and forth Elmore was blathering on about entourages or whatever. Like he wasn’t even watching our game. Can you imagine Gus Johnson during those three minutes?

You can hear Rick yelling...

….I swear he yelled “JERRY” even though jerry’s on the bench.

See, Delk, THAT’S how you draw the foul on the 3. You’ve gotta actually fall down. Just a little pulling down on the forearm is not enough.

that is not the edgar sosa I expect to show up!

by system24 on Jan 7, 2009 8:35 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i know...and no stupid taunting or chest pounding afterwards?

what REALLY would have floored me though is if he dished it off to the trailing Smith…

by twistedwedge on Jan 7, 2009 8:36 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well...

….nice combination: refs have decided to even up the fouls and USF has decided they are exhausted and aren’t going to run that much on defense anymore.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 8:41 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

not that

I am aware of.

On a related note… Super Mario Bros. (the original) is no longer the Number one selling game of all time. It has been replaced by Wii sports.

I just realized

Samardo is on the cusp of being 20…

by twistedwedge on Jan 7, 2009 8:50 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This may be

The worst performance from Andre McGee in two years.

by Mike Rutherford on Jan 7, 2009 8:52 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As long as he makes his foul shots and we still win by 20

I really don’t care. I just want to see a solid road win in the Big East, and that’s what this is.

by CARD_G6 on Jan 7, 2009 8:53 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

samardo

just got blocked by a guy i’ve never heard of. he’s probably gonna want to avoid that move against uconn

by MBelz15 on Jan 7, 2009 8:52 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Having seen the way he's played and the way Jennings has played

I think Samuels will be seeing a lot less time than most people expected.

by CARD_G6 on Jan 7, 2009 8:54 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

agreed

I was impressed with jennings tonight. Where was Goode at tonight? he played well against UK

by MBelz15 on Jan 7, 2009 8:57 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Best team in league?

Hmm….is it UConn? Or is it the current #1 team in America who beat the team that beat UConn by 20.

Also Samardo somehow gets the ball stripped from him by USF’s fourth string small guard on a take to the basket.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 8:56 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I heard that too

Who was he talking to? I also picked out the word “attitude”.

"Aio, quantitas magna frumentorum est."

by jch24 on Jan 8, 2009 12:53 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Pick up your attitude...

….you’re gonna deal with me in the locker room.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

hahahahahha Pitino

“You gotta pick up your attitude, or you’re gonna deal with me in the locker room.”

by Mike Rutherford on Jan 7, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

wow..Rick was layin into someone

fix the attitude…or youll be dealing with me in the locker room..

by twistedwedge on Jan 7, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wow

The T-Will/Swop interaction was almost equally hilarious.

by Mike Rutherford on Jan 7, 2009 8:59 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Swop was obviously pissed

Because he played terribly, but T-Will went over to him and was all clapping and T-Will happy, and when Swop didn’t respond positively, Williams put his arms out and looked at him like he’d just insulted his mom.

by Mike Rutherford on Jan 7, 2009 9:01 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

looks like Swop is who Rick was ripping

And he didnt want to listen to TWill either…

by twistedwedge on Jan 7, 2009 9:01 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Swop did...

…have a horrible game, and it has to be frustrating since he’s playing behind a guy who plays 36 minutes a game.

I wish I wouldn’t have switched over to Duke game. Maybe JERB can make an animated GIF of the interaction.

by CardsFan922 on Jan 7, 2009 9:03 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Rick

Wasn’t he saying something like " fix your attitude or you’ll have to deal with me in the locker room"? I was wondering who he was talking to. That was funny to see.

It wasn't 20 points, but I'll take it

Especially after the pretty good play from Sosa and Jennings. Samuel’s time on the court seems to diminish with each game.

by CARD_G6 on Jan 7, 2009 9:02 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree solid win, good showings by Sosa particularly again, and Jennings

and Earl—goes from bewildered last game to overpowering this game. Very inconsistent. but he was great tonight against mediocre defense.

The passing looked a lot better—but again the opposing D wasn’t denying much.

by frankpos on Jan 7, 2009 9:07 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

At the Game

I was at the game. Earl looked great. Sosa appeared to have a lot of confidence from the shot, but at times appeared to want to shoot too much. There were a few Bad Edgar moments but he is going in the right direction. The T-Will dunk was great, but from my vantage point all I saw was his back. The last few minutes it appeared that Pitino was trying to get Samuels confidence. There were a ton of UofL fans at the game including Denny Crum and Darrell Griffith.
