Things i've learned from watching u of l basketball,,,,,,,,,,
Sosa should only take the three from the top of the key,,,,,,he shoots about 75 percent from there and about 10 percent from everywhere else,,,,,,,,,,,Earl should not take the ball out of bounds,Earl needs extra ball handling practice this week along with his usual extra freethrow and jump shooting,,,,,,,,,if Rick setsup a play for Edgar to drive to the hole and dish the ball or shoot, he’s gonna shoot the long 3 instead,,,,,,,,,pitino is still a great coach,he proved it today by starting sosa, because he knew that sosa was too quick for porter to guard,,,,and every team we play will automatically hit a few sh#t shots like the porter shot and the perry stevenson shot. but hey will scott knocked 1 down for us so nanananana,,take that uk!!
CARDS RULE!!BRONCOS RULE!!GO LAKERS!!!

if i hear one more whiny UK bitch complain that they got beat because of a lucky shot
i might shoot them. they need to go look at the tape and see porter’s 35 footer with 2 seconds left on the shot clock in the first half. sosa’s three was karma, and they can all suck a railroad spike.

uh....
did they not notice that U of L led the entire game (oops – that’s right, yUK had the lead for 7 seconds by 1 point) they only got back in the game because of E5’s mental lapse with 50 seconds to go…..they are so cute aren’t they? Let’s see, without Patterson and Meeks, their team scored a collective 21 points. Yeah, baby – they’re tough and we just got lucky – whatever it takes to get them off the ledge. Go CARDS – ,o)

We'll see
The only difference between the unanimous “Yay, good Edgar” we’re getting this morning and “GD, Sosa, that’s the last straw”, was that the shot went in. It clanks and we sulk into overtime.
He explicitly ignored Pitino’s instructions and he took Porter’s bait, all of it textbook Bad Edgar B: waited too late, left himself as the only option, unnecessary three from a mile away. (Bad Edgar A waits too late, drives with no exit strategy, gets a block or turnover — we saw him earlier in the game, too, although he got bailed out by Porter a couple of times.)
Don’t get me wrong. I’m one of those guys that has a tough time deciding whether I’d rather get to the Final 4 or beat UK, so I’m ecstatic about the outcome. Hopefully, I’m completely wrong and all Edgar needed was success and he’ll have more success.
But my guess is that his smile is gone as soon as Pitino barks at him about a couple of turnovers, which could be around the first timeout of the Villanova game. We’ll see.

I agree with all you say with my head
but my heart not thinking today

I was screaming...
…“no edgar no!!” when he shot it, but hey, at least it wasn’t a challenged shot. Also, with PP there to come help, do you really think he was getting a better shot off? And at the end of the game, do you really expect a foul call in a tied ball game? Finally, had we called time out and Pitino drawn up a play — any trust it would have been executed well or even resulted in a shot getting taken?
All of that is to say, of course on a list of shots I’d count on to win the game, that is low. But he was open look and he nailed it.
In the last few years, what has been a higher percentage for game-winning threes? Long shots from the top of the key after no time-out or designed plays out of timeouts?
by CardsFan922 on Jan 5, 2009 8:24 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That's true
It’s baffled me for 8 years, but timeouts in limited time, must score situations are where we see Bad Ricky. Still can’t understand how Denny could have an endless bag of surefire quick-hitters — he traded timeouts for points pretty much every time — and RP can’t or won’t draw one up to save his life. We probably couldn’t have done much better, % wise.
(Doesn’t change my main point — I’m not at all confident this heralds the return of Good Edgar.)

I agree...
with your assesment of that final shot by edgar, but at the same time I’m pretty encouraged by his play during the rest of the game. He seemed much more patient and willing to “drive and kick,” rather than throw up a ridiculous shot in middle of the defense (although he did have one or two of those, if I recall). All in all, I’m happy with the progress he showed and hope it continues, but I’m still not ready to bet the house on an extended stay by Good Edgar. I want to believe Edgar! Just show me a few solid performances in a row…

While it's good Sosa's shot went in...
it may be bad in the long run because clearly, Sosa was told to drive and dish. It was obvious from the start of that last 20 seconds that he clearly had no intention of doing that. The shot went in so all’s well. But this kid’s mind games aren’t over. He may be too selfish and self-centered to ever be the point guard the team needs. Had this rocket-hard shot not happened to hit the back rim perfectly, it was destined to carom twenty feet from the basket; there would have been no follow up chance.
Okay, to it went in and the kids a hero and I’m glad. I’m also glad he had a good game. But anyone who thinks we’ve reached the climax of the Edgar versus himself battles is wrong. (And I hope I’m wrong, too, and he becomes the key to a remarkable season. I just don’t think that will happen.)

Random Thoughts
Amazing, ancientone, how Machiavelian we become, end justifying the means and all, when Sosa’s l o n g foul shot goes in.
I know you can remember how Crum would draw up his corny out of bounds play from the NBA 1950’s….we’d take the ball out under the opponents basket….THREE guys, THREE, would set up a citadel screen at the foul line, that’s right, at the FOUL LINE (!)…the ball would be flipped high above the screen…and Kenny Payne would make the uncontested glorified foul shot. The play, which was probably a Wooden derivative, was so old and corny, that when it happened all of our TV’s would immediately go back to black and white.
And now even our set plays are chaos.
Glad Jerry hit a couple of threes. Unglad that someone as smart as he is would be so close to the shooter to even give the ref an opportunity to call a three shot foul.
The game showed just how uncommanding we are underneath. Sement Shoes Samardo takes a couple of fouls, sits down, and we’ve got next to nothing. Earl, clearly outplayed, and I’m wondering if that NBA ’09 LOTTO round certainty is not so certain anymore.
I like seeing Swop running his ass off out there, though.
It will be interesting to see how far down the list we go. Might barely hang on the #25.
UCONN and NC both beaten within a week and Pitt to be number one. Wow.

Some fans
are making Sosa out to be a hero after making the shot and actually having a good game. How quickly we can forget. What would have happened if he would have missed that shot and we would have gone to overtime? With Earl fouled out, we would have had a good chance of losing. Yea, Edgar had a good game overall, but that shot was completely ill-advised and probably will end up hurting this team in the long-run. Now, I think Sosa will think he is Michael Jordan and will return to Bad Edgar quicker than he morphed into Good Edgar. I hope I’m wrong, but it seems to me that because one of our most inconsistent players hit a less than 10% shot a lot of people are all of the sudden re-energized about this team and specifically one player. I would love to see him turn the corner and make this team a truly great one, but I’m hesitant to get overexcited about one lucky shot.

yeah, but that's just....
speculation so …..we could say what if E5 hadn’t screwed up with 50 seconds on the clock and U of L with a 7 point lead…..who’s to say we couldn’t have/wouldn’t have drawn some fouls and won by more than 7???? After all, with the exception of yUK being ahead by one lousy point for about 7 seconds, we did lead the ENTIRE game. Great win – I’m still a wreck but oh, so happy and proud of our Cards!

Dang guys
Give the kid a break. He played great all game, made nice moves in the lane, found the open people. Regardless of if that shot goes in or not, Sosa played a great game.

amen...
He did play pretty good last night..made some good passes, no assist because the shots didnt fall. Not his fault. Im quick to criticize Edgar as well-but I saw the passion he had for Louisville last night. “This is OUR house!”
Now if he could just find that energy without having to make a shot first-we would be golden.

Wow
Sosa seems to be one of those guys that says “Gimme the ball” in clutch situations. I was holding my breath when he shot that, but he showed supreme confidence in doing so.

The shot
was basically a hail mary that worked. Well, ok, that will happen occasionally (see Porter’s longer bomb earlier in the same game). Nuff said. But what really got me excited was seeing Sosa (and McGee some, too) driving hard through the lane. That’s what our PG has to do. Drive-and-draw or drive-and-dish. So much good comes from the PG penetrating the lane. It was nice to wake up today, for a change.

You can see
how much Sosa means to the guys on the team. This should help their cohesiveness for the rest of the season. I don’t even want to think about what it would have been like if we hadn’t won this game.
Earl….. Please wake up son. It’s time for the Big East Big Boys.
Earl looked like he took a bong hit in the final TV time out. He wasn’t showing any sense of urgency or emotion. Come on Earl, get in the game brother. We need you.

I hope Im right-
I think E5 was trying to coast into big east play. I mean-after all it was his new years resolution to “dominate every game in Big East play”
