Derrick Caracter to UTEP

According to Adam Zagoria.

Caracter will likely have to sit a year after transferring and would then be eligible second semester of next year.

I’m trying to track down an official comment from the UTEP coaching staff, but haven’t heard back from them yet.

The 6-foot-9 Caracter, out of Fanwood, N.J., spent the last two years at Louisville and was suspended for a total of 17 games. He did not return for this season after repeated conflicts with head coach Rick Pitino over his weight and attitude.

Next week: German National Team.

It's Been At Least One Day

…since his name appeared on The Chronicle.

No, we’re not too obsessed with this guy.

And now:

“Derrick Caracter, the eighth year sophomore from Fanwood, NJ.”

Not what I heard

Take it for what its worth….I talked to Brandon Bender a few night ago at LAC and he says that Caracter is going to Memphis….I kno Bender is and idiot and Im not quick to believe him but i would put this past Caracter or Calipari……and Bender also said that we couldnt play wit Pitt and that we would lose if we pressed them….overall I think hes full of it but just puttin it out there…..

Feel for the guy

I actually feel sorry for the kid and hope that some day he gets his head screwed on correctly. He’s a head case and reminds me of Maurice Clarett here in Columbus… self-inflicted wounds. But I wish he could clean it up and right his life.

Caracter

is a boy scout compared to Clarett.
Clarett was a thug when he got to OSU, a demanding whiner while at OSU (“Where are my tickets for my posse to go to the Fiesta Bowl?”), he was hurt on every two plays at OSU, and had the misfortune to attempt an armed hold up in the men’s room of a dingy Cleveland bar on none other than…..say it slowly with me….C.C. Sabathia!
Last I looked Clarett was about 5’10" and C.C. was about six feet twelve. Or maybe the armed robbery was, somehow, a “misunderstanding.” A “misunderstanding” just as Sprewell’s choke job on Carlesimo was a misunderstanding….especially when he went back and did it a second time.

I’m with you on Caracter, though. He didn’t seem to be a bad kid, just lazy and with no concept as to how serious his lack of discipline might effect his life later on. Heck, he had a shot at pros, maybe even the NBA. But he had fourteen wishes and I think it was fair that the genee didn’t grant him a fifteenth.

I seemed to be the only person backing him at times...

but I liked him.. I saw alot of potential (so did Greg Oden- “Caracter is still the scariest player I’ve ever faced”). At times, such as both games against Pitt, he was an absolute monster… at other times he was the drunk-looking kid at the end of the bench. I just wish he had worked out
