Update on Stripe Out.....

OK, here's what I want U of L  fans to do.....why not have a Stripe Out at the next home game.  Neutral Zone could sell striped TShirts for $10 that could easily slip over whatever we wear to the game. (I don't know who would make the shirts - maybe the same source that was used for the black out or white out shirts).  Think about 20,000 striped shirts (no whistles please)....I think it would be too fun.  I think it beats white out, black out, any out.  The refs wants to be the stars of the games?  We'll join in the fun.

1/20/09   I just got a response back from TJ and he is sending my idea of a "Stripe Out" to their Marketing Department....looks like U of L is considering the idea.  Cool.

I love the idea

But practically speaking, it won’t work. Anytime you ask people to wear something they don’t already have in their wardrobe, you’re asking too much. The vast majority of people won’t go buy a striped shirt, and that holds doubly true for the people in the lower section that is visible on TV. Plus, the university might be viewed as endorsing higher scrutiny towards the referees, and that might be inappropriate.

How about pitching the idea to the student section?

Thanks for the comments....

while I don’t agree that the MAJORiTY of fans won’t buy a striped shirt ( I think the success of the black out shirts show that most fans WILL pay for a shirt for an “out” game), I DO agree that the universit y might be viewed as endorsing a higher scrutiny towards the refs and THAT may be why TJ nixes the idea. We’ll see. I think it would be a hoot and that it would draw a lot of national attention.

Linda

I think your idea is avant’…fresh…creative…sharp. It would be the most fun we could have without taking off our clothes.
Not obtuse and obvious enough for those who could push it to actually get behind it.
And it might offend the NARRCP….The National Association of Retired Referees Correct Politically.

Thanks Roz....

I’m just excited that TJ responded and sent my idea to their Marketing Dept. It would be so much fun and get us a lot of national attention – as if our High Flying Cardinals aren’t getting us enough right now. I am nervous about the Rutgers game but then I’m a nervous wreck before EVERY game. ( Loved the NARRCP – HA! )
