Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles at Louisville Cardinals, Sep 6, 2008 3:30 PM EDT

I don't think it's even an issue this week.

We need some baby.

Go Cards.

Offensive line is banged up already

Shows just how thin we are at O-line… No disrespect to the second/third string guys, but we really need Wood and Kuyateh back in there.

U of L ...

… looked a lot better this week. Cantwell looked more comfortable and confident, and the defense continued to do a good job.

Good game. Not perfect, but good.

I've been told he is a nice Blue Boy though...

if a bit condescending and lurking

(Hey, Tru Blue—I don’t think many if any from this site go out on your site and post nonsense…)

by frankpos on Sep 6, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

hey now

sometimes the best we can come up with is nonsense. i keep the uk hate in check on ASoB though

by speedcard on Sep 8, 2008 1:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Nonsense?

What was nonsense about either comment? Did you think Louisville played poorly? If so, I can hardly understand how.

We do have visitors from this site occasionally post nonsense at A Sea of Blue. Just the other day, one of your members accused us of cheating after we landed Ridge Wilson’s verbal. I have never done that, nor posted one offensive word here, and I won’t begin now.

If you can’t take an honest pat on the back, then I am sorry for you. I meant nothing untoward, and I didn’t know this had become The Cats Pause or Cardinal Sports where every UK or U of L comment is met with derision.

Tru, in all seriousness, because you seem like a nice guy really

It’s not you personally. It’s just that some of us rather diehard Cards really just don’t even like interacting with UK fans on the boards at all —particularly in active threads during one of our games. You’re our arch-rival , you see. And some of us come from a time when UK dissed UL so badly, and for so many years, they refused to even play us.

So we’re a bit sensitive on that point, much less on that arch-rival thing…

I understand you mean well, but when i got back from the game and saw your comments on here during the game, i just found it irritating. And apparently not just me.

But it’s really not you personally, man, so don’t take it so.

by frankpos on Sep 7, 2008 11:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Thanks.

I will concede that point of sensitivity, although I admit I am at a loss to understand it. I did not come over here and comment at all on the Kentucky game, because I can totally understand sensitivity after a rivalry game. Totally. No gratuitous “good game,” no “tough luck” crap, because that is justifiably irritating to the fans of a team who have just lost a big game to an arch rival.

But I struggle to see why anyone should be irritated at this most recent contest. And I think UK fans should have a vested interest in Louisville picking itself up for lots of reasons, but I also acknowledge that in the online community, that is not so at all. I live in Louisville, and although the Cardinals are the major rival of my team, unlike some UK fans, I don’t wish ill on the Cards, I just want an honest victory on the field of play. Both Mike and I gig each other’s teams, and that is just good rivalry fare — the rivalry is a good thing and stoking the fires a bit is good also.

But let’s not let the rivalry fires burn so brightly that they become destructive to both parties. We are fans of teams, not enemy countries. You guys beat us badly in basketball last year and I congratulated the Cardinals for their efforts — well deserved, I might add — in my post game analysis. That outcome seems likely to me again this year, although I hope I’m wrong.

I do appreciate that it isn’t personal, and I would never denigrate you fans or your team on your own board — it would be wrong. And I don’t make comments on here to irritate you. I have several Louisville fans post on A Sea of Blue, and they are all welcome to join in and debate reasonably. I have had Florida fans and fans of every stripe, including Dookies, come over to post, and I welcome all of them. I read and comment on a lot of blogs, including those of opponents, but till now I have never received such a hostile reaction to such an inoffensive comment.

Bottom line — this rivalry is good, and strong, but I hope we don’t take the road of some of the message boards. I keep hoping that the readers of SBN are a cut above.

Ahh, you're just too young to know or remember

so I personally understand

why you don’t understand

Thank you.

It has been long since I have been called young, and it’s never unwelcome. :-)

I'm a youngin...

so I don’t have the same feelings as some of my other Cards fans. I respect everyone’s views but IMO as long as your not trying to stir the pot, and actually have useful comments your welcome. I believe there are UK/UL fans out there that don’t hate the other side when they are not facing each other.

To each there own. Most of the members on here have been on here alot longer than I have so my opinion doesn’t mean to much lol.

Guys come on.

Not in front of the Go Cards Baby

by Blocky on Sep 7, 2008 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow

There’s a lot of internet hate going on here… I know we’ve had some trolls that were just rude (especially last year after the football game) but Tru and kat51 haven’t ever done that and don’t give any indication to start. And y’all should check out ASoB… while they are fundamentally flawed in their school preference, they do have great stuff over there and they’ve always been good to me. Give ’em a chance at least.

Hate?

If you think this “irritation” at having UK fans hang around and critique our team’s performance (however "nicely") is hate

you’re way too sensitive.

You should have been around, oh , say, in the 70’s and 80’s —

now that was some hate…

by frankpos on Sep 8, 2008 8:41 AM EDT up reply actions

they beat us twice in 6 years....

and now they are critiquing our games? Give me a break. I wish Mike could/would delete their entrys….why do they continue to stalk our site? Pathetic.

Delete?

Because Mike respects Tru as an SB Nation blogger…as does Tru same with Mike.

Nice win Cards.

Boring game

I take little from beating a bad 1AA team. I was underwhelmed, but a win is a win. I’m not sure there is a guaranteed win other than Syracuse left on the schedule.

by Whacker77 on Sep 6, 2008 7:51 PM EDT reply actions

Whacker, I'm not sold yet that we're better than 50/50 on the season

but if our D continues to play like that, it gives us a chance.

The O looked like it was getting comfortable against St. X…errr..Tenn Tech.

I happened to have a photographer there this game—so I’ll post some pics later.

These blue fans....

are acting as though they are one of the hottest teams in the country – got news for them. We might be down with this ugly rebuilding thing but NOBODY outside of this state is talking UK football- I mean nobody – well, maybe Ashley Judd. Did anyone notice that Vanderbilt beat South Carolina and the great Steve Spurrier? Still, yUK fans talk like Vanderbilt is an automatic win for them this year and every year. Maybe not… By the way, saw on the news last night Knute Brooks giving the fans @#$ for booing their little QB. They win a couple of pathetic bowl games; beat a weak UL team a couple of years and now they are football experts advising UL fans to be patient with Koach- if it weren’t so sad, it would be funny. Go CARDS!

by Linda on Sep 7, 2008 1:30 PM EDT reply actions

On the other hand...

You do have to respect how UK football fans never gave up on their team over the years. And lord knows they’ve had some lean, lean years in the past. Their game attendance was pretty darn impressive during some really bad seasons. Part of me likes the fact that UK’s last two seasons were pretty good—if only for those long-suffering fans.

Now I am certainly not thrilled that some of their success came at UL’s expense, nor do I like listening to or reading obnoxious crap from their fans, but I don’t think there was anything obnoxious from the above UK posters, though. It just seemed like posts from a football fan from any other school who happened to watch the UL game and decide to share an opinion here. I mean the dude didn’t even mention UK in the comment or talk smack. Maybe I am just missing something. Just my opinion, take it for what it’s worth.

Enjoyed your post, Lisa....

speaking only for myself: my retort had less to do with the actual entries made on this blog than with the witnessed behavior of so many yUK fans since their win. I don’t care about their relationship with their program, whether or not they do or don’t support their team or anything UK – guess I’m just complacent and apathetic…..so be it. I find it interesting that several of their fans are so very interested in U of L though. By the way, your Baby really came through for us – that’s why I wanted her posted before Sunday’s game.

by Linda on Sep 7, 2008 3:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Let's hope the wins continue

But please don’t blame Go Cards Baby if they don’t. I know this is silly, but I’m always a little more nervous if I know she is “presiding” over the game; I don’t want her to let us down. This made March madness even more nerve-wracking than usual. Yesterday Ellie saw her picture on the site and proudly told her dad and me, “That’s me! That’s Ellie!” She was tickled.

BTW, it feels good to be back from my “hiatus” and posting again.

Big East

After another abysmal weekend (Syracuse losing to Akron…Pitt losing…Cincy surprisingly even having the stones to show up at Norman…Rutgers…UCONN just getting by), perhaps we should consider disbanding the conference as far as football is concerned.

Do I have a witness? Let’s face it, except for the number of teams, the league is not “Big’, and it certainly isn’t "East.”

I couldn’t even get the Cardinals on any of my 514 stations and watched a “CPO Sharkey” marathon instead.

Seriously, though, you know things are bad when Mike has to bring out “The Baby” for September tilts against the likes of Tennessee Tech, when previously the talisman was saved and hoarded for, say, the Regional Final NCAA basketball game.

Yeah, maybe the UK folk shouldn’t be hangin’ here so much, but as far as there heathen post victory demeanor goes, well, Linda, let them eat grapes.

Anyway, yeah, lets board up the program and go for club football. Look at all the money we could save! Then we could be like the real big east teams…teams like Johns Hopkins…teams like Williams…teams like Hobart…maybe a little Baldwin Wallace…and Russell Sage. Do some fencing. A little crew. Maybe some intramural whist.

And we could play real club football against teams with similar quality programs.

We could play Colgate, but we’d have a better chance of beating Palmolive.

by Roz on Sep 7, 2008 5:13 PM EDT reply actions

Do you realize that since the Big East is soooo crappy,

we could end up in the Orange Bowl if we manage to have at least a solidly mediocre team? If that ain’t reason enough to blow up the BCS, I don’t know what is.
