I can't decide
whether I think this is a good game or not. For me, it’s a weird combination of enjoyable and painful. At least our defense seems better. However, Brian Brohm, Harry Douglas, and Art Carmody aren’t walking through that door.

I had no idea...
…we were going to be so awful. What happened to the Cantwell who looked so good in years past?

How the mighty have fallen
Going from scoring 40 points a game to THIS.
Getting punked TWICE by the Blue Scum in two years.
This program has truly hit rock bottom.
Has Kragthorpe been burned in effigy yet in the parking lot?

Man oh man!
We are a steaming pile of suck! Very, very disheartening.

Fucking Pathetic
I was going to say this was the worst Cantwell we’ve seen. And that was before the three picks.
Bilal Powell should be benched until he decides he wants to move at something faster than a crawl. Starting at our own 17 yard line after a free kick is absolutely ridiculous. Also, hold on to the fucking football.
Dropped passes, ugggghhhh.
Doug Beaumont and the defensive front line are the only positives to take away from what is probably our worst showing since the Cooper era.
I feel like destroying something.

last year's losses ...
were like getting shot in the back of the head. It was quick and you were dead before you knew it.
this loss was like being stretched on the rack…slow painful and enevidable.
this was miserable

Awful
Dare I say….Charlie Stubbs…. we miss you already. What is wrong with the receivers? Can’t catch anything. Hunter was terrible today, placing the ball just out of reach of them half the time, and the other half the ball was dropped. Beaumont was the star, you were right Mike. We need Scott Long back.
Ron English on the other hand, has done something incredible with this defense. Tremendous effort from everyone on that side of the ball. But you can’t win if you can’t score.
Pathetic

I don't know....
what happened but SOMEONE has absolutely RUINED Hunter Cantwell. His timing and throwing motion is nothing like it was against Virginia Tech a couple of years ago. If that is a result of Jeff Brohm’s coaching, he should go too. Oh man, we’ve fallen so far and the free fall has just begun.

Listened to Kragthorpe at the official site...
Same tired shit we heard last year. This dude is something else.

what a day....
Well I truly went into the game thinking we were going to surprise some people. All the hype we heard about the team playing fairly well in the closed practices. Where did it go?
I must give a big thumbs up to the defense though. Although not the best offensive team we will play, they did play pretty well, and compared to last season we have made leeps-and-bounds. The emotion and hustle on defense was more in the past 60 minutes than that I saw all last season.
Offense? What offense? This was the poorest offensive game I think I have ever witnessed. Every time we would finally get a good looking offensive play (thanks Chichister and Baughmont) we would get a penalty or do some weak play. Kind of like running a screen pass to a RB when its 3 and 15. The screen won’t work when the DB’s aren’t worried about the long ball. And what happened to Hunter? I knew he would probably be a little jittery out the gates, but he consistently under threw the receivers or just flat out threw it in another zip code.
It shows great things about the Louisville fan base as almost the entire stadium walks out before the game was over. It was said to see the blue to red ration almost 1:1 with like 7 minutes left in the game. Very saddening.
On a final note. The big east officiating is officially terrible. I’m going to watch the game again but I’m pretty sure they f’d us on a few occasions, biggest being the UK punt return that we recovered but was reversed due to a penalty.
It’s going to be a long season, but I’ll still be out there rooting them on. I just hope we make some sort of bowl game this season.

Yes your fanbase is pathetic...
You said it Civicman, not me.
Truth is UK won this game on their D, enough said.
And I do wish you all the best in the Big East. Coach Krag will bring you back just give him time.

I don’t see it. I just don’t see it.
U of L OWNED UK during the Petrino era. Two years under the Kraggie administration and we lose twice to the bastards from Lexington.
Someone PLEASE wake me up. This has to be a nightmare.

game!
I saw several games during the 80’s and early 90’s. Had fun; chatted and drank a bunch of beer. I was at the game 2 years ago when Bush broke his leg. I was wigged out by the scene. I was away for years, and when I came back UofL seemed to be a real football school. The change in scene was remarkable.
I watched the 1st half of the game today on tv (live in Asheville.) Was very proud of the defense. My comments are completely based on watching the first half. Hunter needs to work on his short passes. No reason to torch them as he did. His big throws were fantastic, but there was noone to catch them. Everyone here knew the catchers were suspect; they’ll get there.
Sucks to lose to Kentucky. But for me (a dude who moved away a while ago, but still loves watching the team) it’s supremely cool that this game exists. I wish the F’ that we’d kicked their F’n butts, but I think they did ok. No? Maybe I missed a bunch in the 2nd half?

A huge disappointment...
Yes it was. I am truly sick about it. It is especially hard to swallow since we lost to our arch rival. However, we must realize that this was our first game with many, many changes in place. Considering all of the players that we have lost, our defense was tremendous. Beaumont and Chichester are exciting new stars.. Our linebackers performed far better than we could have imagined.
The Blue Bellies didn’t take anything that we didn’t hand to them on a sliver platter. Give them credit, but let’s stay positive. Kentucky took advantage of our weaknesses and beat us up, but all is not lost. We can build from this devastating loss, and I believe that we will. Go Cards!

points for thought
1. Powell jogging on a kickoff return? umm sorry take a seat and bring in victor anderson or at least somebody willing to give full effort. No hole… fine… make one! at least sprint east and west for crying out loud…
2. UK WAS the better team… who cares… im mad but im not blind of too stuck on my cards to admit it.
3. Hartline a genius? not a chance. UK didnt even have to let him throw the ball today… there was no need to run more than 11 plays… i mean it was that horrible.
4. UL defense looked great… but what will happen when we face somebody with a diverse playbook???? keep improving!
5. Hunters tipped passes? 6,7,8 are you serious? Under throwing receivers? are you serious? the deflected int i can handle but the other two were badly placed balls…
6. Doug B… i think i like you…
7. Josh Chichester… for 6’8" you still need a little more coordination… but at least we know if we can get some air under a ball you have a chance to come down with it
8. Coach Kragthorpe…. RESIGN!… nobody likes you but Tom Jurich… and thats probably because he bagged your wife in college and know hes making it up to you. I mean really what have you done? Tulsa? wow i think i can take Fairdale high school and get a 6-7 record in that conference. Well i mean you have a .500 coaching record… and you have a bogus clause if we fire you you get paid bank! YOUR NOT WORTHY!
8. Jeff Brohm…. if you truly are calling the plays… i drop the screens… they are not worth the risk when WRs cant catch a cold. QB coach? you wanna get your QB to get the ball to the WRs and over the D line… The dude is what 6’2"?
9. Ron English… yea the guy that App St made look like a fool last year… We still know who was in blue and maize… but you’ve managed to give us hope on defense…
10. Tom Jurich… thanks for the last game we will be on ESPN for a while… i mean 11-1… 6-6… and now maybe 4 wins if we get lucky this year… I like you and dont want you to leave… but seriously… we need a BIG TIME coach… These high school kids dont wanna play for Krapthorpe… I mean trust me… I wouldn’t!
Sorry to all the fans that had to watch that game…
oh wait…
hows that expansion going now?

As I said before...
You guys need to give Coach K a chance. He got rid of the bad stuff that Petrino had on board when K arrived. I think many UL fans are very narrow minded…just admit he had to deal with a bunch of thugs and below level student athletes.

Excuse me?
As I recall, UK fans wanted Rich Brooks out of there so bad – they walked out; they booed; they blogged that he was an idiot – all of this from a fanbase that had NOT tasted much success for years before that – pitiful bowl games ,if any , every few (very few) years. Imagine how they would have reacted if they had tasted the success that U of L fans have tasted. I agree with Frank – not only do I wish UK fans would NOT hang around OUR blog – I don’t understand why they are doing it? Oh wait, who are we talking about here??? Not to worry, TJ will fix this – we will reign again in football and U of L basketball has already left them in our dust. They beat us 2 years straight and think they are world beaters – remember, Bobby will bring the Hogs into their ratty stadium next month – SOOEY !!!!!!!!!

A few things for your glorious Sunday morning.....
1. If you are still supporting Steve Kragthorpe, you are a UK fan. There is nothing you can say, yell, type or think that will change this. It is now fact.
2. Cantwell’s throwing motion is scary. I dont have the Gator Bowl on DVR but would love to see if he threw from his ass then.
3. Stop trying to revise history by blaming the state of the program on Petrino. In Petrino’s time here, I can remember 2 incidents – Chris Vaughn and some other player shooting some paintballs at a haunted house and Jujuan Spillman’s pot habit. I dont see why this is now HIS problem. If Kragthorpe cant keep players focused and out of trouble, he will not succeed in college football. UL cant succeed by recruiting choir boys. No one can. You cant get enough of them. We need to take some risks and coach them to be better people than they thought they could be. This will ultimately be the demise of the program (to even lower depths).
4. The WRs dropped a lot but Cantwell was not throwing a good ball. Most were right at the WRs rather than leading them. Underthrown balls are tough and that was the norm.
5. This has been said but I cant believe how slow Bilal Powell looked. At one point, I thought Brock Bolen was running back a kick.
On the positive side…..
1. The defense looked good. I hope its not because UK is terrible.
2. The LB’s that I thought would be clueless played hard and made plays.
3. The punting was mostly good. note if you punt 40 times in a game, at some point you are going to shank one.
4. I was surprised by Chichester. I had heard he was clumsy and I thought he looked a lot better than that.
5. The O line gave Cantwell time against a really good defensive front.
He Hate UK

guess?
i feel sorry for cantwell. my thought is the job of receivers is to get open. of course it helps if they hold on to the catch. i feel that jc transfers were at the jc for one of two reasons. 1) poor academics; 2) poor skills. i now expect our receiving corps to graduate pbk.

In the final analysis.....
Two teams that are not very good played on Sunday. The team that turned it over five times lost. The team that won appears to also have serious issues on offense.
By the end of the season there is a good chance that Coach K is going to wish there were eight road games instead of eight home games.

Not piling on
The 4th quarter aside, I thought Louisville played Kentucky very evenly. This would have been a 13-9 Kentucky victory if the Cardinal offense just completely implode.
And remember, Cantwell haters; one of your Louisville receivers dropped a pass in the end zone that hit the receiver in the “Louisvlle” on his jersey. Louisville suffered from a little more bad execution than the Wildcats for the first 3 quarters.
Stay strong, Cardinal faithful. It wasn’t the end of the world for Kentucky football when, two years ago, your team stomped the ever-loving shit out of the Wildcats; this won’t be the end of the world for you, either.

Brock and Bilal ...
THE RUNNING GAME? OVER-ALL PLAYCALLING?
Why is everyone mostly blaming Hunter?
Brock was no help, and really isn’t and shouldn’t be the featured back if we are serious about our team. Our O-line doesnt make big enough holes for him. Bilal isn’t consistent yet, doesn’t really like contact. Vic looked much better then the other three. I’m hard on Brock but I just dont see him ever helping against teams with good all around defenses, considering our youth at w.r., except for the short yardage situations
Kragthorpe really dropped the ball on the fourth and one call. I think the fieldgoal would helped alot more then the risk of getting stopped, like we did.
J. Brohm looked more Charlie Stubbs then Bobby P. Let’s drop the silly delay handoff to Brock ( or any other handoff to Bolen for that matter),and the screens ( esp. cutbacks) on third and moderate
I HONESTLY believe we could have won that game. With just a little more experience at w.r. we would have. Making the field goal early, the saftey, and then kicking the field goal late would have made the score 8-10. When they went up 20-2 it was too demoralizing, even with 10 or 11 minutes left.
