Louisville/West Virginia lands GameDay slot
ESPN and the Big East conference have announced that ESPN College GameDay will broadcast live at the WVU Coliseum on Saturday, March 7, when the WVU men’s basketball team plays host to Louisville.
The popular college basketball television show will be making its first-ever appearance at the WVU Coliseum. The show is scheduled to broadcast live twice that day, both for one hour at 11 a.m. and at 8 p.m. West Virginia and Louisville will be televised by ESPN and tip at 9 p.m.
The WVU-Louisville game will be played on the final regular season weekend for college basketball in 2008-09. The Big East is the only conference that will have more than one league school host GameDay this season (Connecticut at Notre Dame on Jan. 24 is the other league contest).
"We are certainly excited about ESPN College GameDay coming to our campus," says Head Coach Bob Huggins. "It will be a day that we will be able to showcase our great fans, our great University and the great state of West Virginia."
How many people saw the headline and thought this was basketball-related?
In the four-year history of the program, this will be the fourth GameDay game featuring Louisville. It is sort of disappointing that Freedom Hall won't make an appearance in (one of) its final year(s) of existence (smooth edit job).
The full slate of games looks like this:
Jan. 17- Chapel Hill, N.C. (Miami at North Carolina)
Jan. 24- South Bend, Ind. (Connecticut at Notre Dame)
Jan. 31- Knoxville, Tenn. (Florida at Tennessee)
Feb. 7- Spokane, Wash. (Memphis at Gonzaga)
Feb. 14- Madison, Wis. (Ohio State at Wisconsin)
Feb. 21- Austin, Texas (Oklahoma at Texas)
Feb. 28- Berkeley, Calif. (UCLA at California)
Mar. 7- Morgantown, W.V. (Louisville at West Virginia)

OMG
Talk about the most misleading RSS feed headline of the day.
I was all pumped to have Corso right there outside PJCS.
And I was thinking, “why would they show THAT game? Maybe they think we’re going to be good?”
Also I can’t believe UConn/UL or Pitt/UL at Freedom Hall is not a Gameday game. Thought that was the lock of the century. Oh well — maybe they just want to come every other year.

???
“It is sort of disappointing that Freedom Hall won’t make an appearance in its final year of existence.”
One year and the new arena will be ready? Not in THIS city…or any other for that matter.

most misleading headline indeed :)
my thoughts went from “wtf?!” to “oh”.
And yeah, as was previously mentioned, this isn’t the last year in Freedom Hall, still this coming season and the next. Hopefully ESPN will make it there for GameDay in its actual last season.
