Mozell Axson out for the season with ACL injury

Steve Kragthorpe announced at a press conference this afternoon that senior middle linebacker Mozell Axson will miss the 2008 season because of an ACL injury he suffered during a non-contact drill at practice last week.

Axson, a senior, has recorded 27 tackles over the past three seasons, and was the only linebacker on U of L's two-deep with any field experience in a Cardinal unifrom. He had been penciled in as Louisville's starting middle linebacker, a role which now falls to junior college transfer Antwon Canady.

Axson will seek a medical redshirt in order to gain a fifth year of eligibility.

Quick question: are we using knives in these non-contact drills? Because if so, it's sort of defeating the purpose.

I know it’s trendy to be optimistic heading into the first game of the season, but the news is not predicting a good season. All of these injuries, suspensions, and lack of depth argue for a bad season. A 4-8 record is becoming a bigger possibility.
