Scott Long injures foot at practice

Here's the official word from U of L per ITV:

Junior wide receiver Scott Long of the University of Louisville football team injured his foot in practice on Monday during a non-contact drill.

His condition will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

Definitely a far cry from the broken leg rumor which was initially floating around, but given the way injury situations were handled a season ago, this day-to-day business still worries me.

While losing Long probably wouldn't be the worst piece of news that could occur between now and Aug. 31 (watch those steps, Eric Wood), it'd be pretty damn close.

If you need me, I'll be pacing for the next two weeks.

UPDATE: Long broke the fifth metatarsal bone (shaft of the small toe) in his foot, and will have surgery at some point over the next couple of days. This is a very common fracture in the sports world, and recovery time after surgery is generally 6-8 weeks, although there have been cases of athletes healing faster.

Regardless, I think  assuming Long will be out for at least a month is a safe postulation.

don't pace....

Here’s the official statement from Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe:

"After looking at the X-Ray and consulting with our team doctors, it was revealed that Scott Long suffered a broken bone in his foot and will have surgery in the next couple days to aide his recovery.

I’m uncertain at this time how long he will be out of action. I’ve had players with similar injuries respond quickly, and it’s my hope that Scott can respond quickly in this instance. We wish him a speedy recovery, but we are lucky to have capable depth behind him to pick up the production in his absence."

Well, the season is off to a great start. I hope Kragthorpe has a good, strong hard hat.

Maybe Brock Bolin's Dad could fill in

Via Deadspin and ESPN.com (Brian Bennett represent!)

The Bolens aren’t like most families. Their patriarch is a former Green Beret who once worked as a bounty hunter in Africa and later served as Hustler publisher Larry Flynt’s personal valet. Jim Bolen has been in more fistfights than he can remember, was busted by the feds on an international gun-running charge and got rich as a self-made businessman before losing most of his savings when the housing bubble burst.

Meanwhile, Jim used his unexpected unemployment time to pen his memoir, titled “No Guts, No Glory: My Incredible Life as a Brawler, Soldier, Mercenary, Bouncer, Bodyguard, Businessman and All-Around Nice Guy.”

I’m scared.

Maybe..

this will make it tough for KY to gameplan against us. Who are we going to throw the ball to? Well nobody really knows now.

I know I’m going to get killed for saying this: His loss dosen’t hurt for the KY game. They were going to put Lindley on him, anyway. Long is slow too; with the pressure they were going to get upfront Cantwell wouldn’t even have time to throw it to him. WELCOME TO THE SEASON OF SCREENS AND DUMPOFFS.
