Trent Guy shot

Louisville wide receiver Trent Guy was shot at approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning at Club Villa Fontana on Fourth Street.

Not too many details at this point, other than that Guy is at University Hospital and listed in stable condition.

With JaJuan Spillman appearing poised for dismissal after being arrested and charged with DUI, possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon earlier this week, Guy figured to head into summer camp atop the Cardinal depth chart at the Z receiver position.

Obviously more on this as it develops, but here's hoping Trent's road to recovery is as clear as possible.

UPDATE: From the C-J story:

Guy, a junior wide receiver from Charlotte, N.C., was taken to University Hospital, where he was in stable condition around 10 a.m. following surgery for a gunshot wound in the back, said U of L football spokesman Rocco Gasparro.

Christopher 2X, who also visited Guy in the hospital today, said doctors told him the gunshot did not injure any vital organs and that Guy can expect a full recovery. "He's very fortunate," 2X said.

Louisville police spokesman Phil Russell said the shooting occurred outside a parking garage at 627 S. Fifth St. The shooting was reported just before 2:25 a.m.

Russell said it followed an altercation at a nightclub in Theater Square. He said no arrests have been made.

It sure sounds like this could have been much, much worse.

Good things so rarely happen after 2 a.m., kids. And when they do, they tend to occur in the comfort of your place of residence.

Dear Lord...

what is going to happen next? We are praying that Trent will recover. Krag is going to have even more of a mess when he comes back from vaca. I wonder what if anything he will/can do about the mess that has become our football team. I sure hope TJ can step in and help get it turned around because it seems pretty obvious at this point that Krag doesn’t have a clue…not one. I guess he’s still walking around somewhere speaking softly and carrying that big stick.

Again. WTF

What Is going on here? Everyday Bam! its something new. I could go down that list that was just put up a few days about players dismissed or otherwise off the team. Now a player has been shot. I pray for him and his family that he’s alright. Maybe Krag is just a lil’ to country to keep up with this lil’ urban town called Louisville and his players.
What is the difference between Petrino and Kragthrope? They had basically the same players. Yet under Petrino the players hardly ever made the news like recently. Then they started wild’ out under Coach K. I don’t get that.

Linda Seriously

You’re gonna blame Krag for a guy getting shot. SERIOUSLY.

You can spin it anyway you want, but Krag walked into a bad situation, and hes doing everything in his power to get it turned around.

No, JSmith09,

I am certainly NOT blaming Koach for Trent getting shot – seriously. We ALL have to own the mess we’re in and when we make bad choices, there are horrible consequences and Trent should have never put himself in a position to be shot at a club early in the morning. I don’t think I said I blamed Krag – I did say he doesn’t get it and I stand by that – it is apparent that he doesn’t know how to control these kids. Go Cards – always.

Linda you're wrong

If Petrino was our coach would that guy not have shot at him. It’s the summer and last night was the 4th of July. He’s in college and he went out. No matter how you spin it, NOBODY should ever be shot.

I don't know ....

what you are talking about – I never said anyone should ever be shot – I’m not spinning anything – uh, did I say anyone should ever be shot….???? Give me a break – we’ve beat this to death. Have a good evening.

You did say this:

”...and Trent should have never put himself in a position to be shot at a club early in the morning.” I have to agree with JSmith09 on this one – Trent was just doing what college kids do. I really dont see how he “put himself” in any position. College kids go out to clubs ALL the time – who ever expects to get shot?

The bigger picture

First of all, I really want to get to know anybody who is named “Christopher 2X”. And fortunately, it sounds like 2X is a good guy with a doubled-variable name.

I definitely take no pleasure in hearing about things like this. Hopefully Guy pulls a Paul Pierce and recovers quickly.

I hope Trent Guy recovers quickly

However, I think God, Zeus, the fates, karma, Mother Earth, and/or the Flying Spaghetti Monster are trying to tell us something about our football team/our football coach/our former football coach/the University of Louisville/ourselves as fans. Of course, I have no idea what we are being told; like so many other things in life, it is open to interpretation. I wish Rod Serling would step out of the shadows and give us some narration here.

Us as fans?

I doubt the fans have anything to do with our woes. Seriously.
