Josh Langford commits to Louisville

More solid news from the world of roundball as Rick Pitino has landed his first big catch in the class of 2010.

Huntsville (Ala.) small forward Josh Langford became the first high school junior-to-be to commit to Louisville when he made the announcement this morning. The 6-6, super athletic slasher is currently rated as the 48th best player in his class by Scout.com.

Though his ability to get to the bucket and finish is tremendous, the consensus from the scouts is that he must develop a more reliable outside shot in order to be a true offensive threat at the three.

Langford's uncle and cousin are Louisville residents, and Josh's familiarity with the city gave U of L an inside track from the beginning of his recruitment.

"My dream school is Louisville," Langford said two weeks ago. "I love their program; the style they play and of course they have a great coach."

He had also been pursued by Memphis, Miami, Mississippi State, Clemson, Alabama, Missouri, Kansas State and USC.

Nate Johnson

...now there was a slasher who could slash, but unfortunately, did not shoot particularly well. Even as a frosh he looked about forty-seven years old. I think Denny had a real soft spot for him as a remember his arm around Johnson after we won to get to the Great Eight (Carolina beat us in Syracuse) in the late nineties. To the Elite Eight even after the “game had passed Denny by.” Ahem.

The first “search” showed him to be playing in (honest) Korea.
It’s amazing, as time goes by, how you can become attached to someone, some sports figure in some far away town, that you don’t know, never will know, have no desire to know…and yet.
Kenny Payne…Cornelius Holden…Tick Rogers…Keith Williams. They’re all up there in our heads, wearing the home wedding gown whites. All fresh faced, young, and uninjured. It’s all in front of them. And we can play our mind movies anytime we want.

Anyway, what’s Nate been up to?

Nate

He and his fiance were actually in my mom’s prepared childbirth (lamaze) class a few years back. He was playing in Korea at the time – he had been the league’s MVP two season before, apparently – so he only made it to a few classes, but my mom said both of them were extremely friendly.

After his fiance found out that my mom’s family was chock-full of U of L fans, she got Nate to sign like six or seven autographs, which I still have and might use for a contest prize at some point.

Anyhow, it sounded to me like he’d found a pretty good life for himself.

Thanks

Nice story on Nate, Mike. He was always fun to watch. Sounds grounded, happy, and he’s playin’ basketball.
