Beano

I have always thought that Beano was a little nutso, but I have to agree completely with the following diatribe:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/index

Why doesn't our commissioner want a playoff?  Given that there are so many business aspects to the subject of a college football playoff, one never knows what he is thinking, but his position on the matter is very curious.

Except for his being wrong about there being seven teams, everything else in this piece seems reasonable.

Beano is a lot nutso

Seven teams, and if Notre Dame went 11-1 and lost to USC by 75, they’d still make the four-team tournament in any season.

But Tranghese – to put it bloggily – totally pussed out here. There’s no way this thing was going to get done, but he and Dan Beebe had the opportunity to at least extend the conversation, but inexplicably (at least for those of us who aren’t super rich and soulless) chose not to.

A playoff is so obviously in the best interest of a league like the Big East (again, at least for those supporters of the conference who aren’t super rich and soulless). I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if Louisville had beaten Rutgers and finished the ‘06 regular season 12-0, I sincerely believe there is no way they would have been allowed to play for the national championship. And somehow, I think that even that wouldn’t have been enough to give Tranghese the courage to stand against the even more rich and even more soulless powers that be.

It’s all just so frustrating.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
