Billy likes 'em young...

OK, I know this topic is getting a bit old locally but

this national link shows it has legs (and is pretty funny).

CBS Sportline...

Dear Coach Billy Gillispie,

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that my son, Fox Clay Travis, will not be able to accept your scholarship offer to play basketball for the University of Kentucky in 2026. Notwithstanding your prodigious research and strong selling points ("It's important to get on kids before they can actually give verbals.") we just think a four-month-old is too young to accept an athletic scholarship.....

Oh, you wiley Clay Travis!

I liked this the best: “Lots of people think it’s pretty hard to forecast athletic ability based on two-year olds playing musical chairs at Baptist churches. But you and I both know those people are idiots and end up coaching basketball in places like Minnesota.”

BTW, frankpos, this would be a perfect FanShot.

I'm glad....

people are continuing to get on Gilllespie. It’s disgracfeful that he is going after kids who are way too young to even know what they want yet. I could care less what they do with their pathetic BBall program but 8th grade recruiting? Oh, puuuleeeeze. I guess you just got to have fun with it.

Question

Are these legally binding contracts? And if so, can someone explain to me how an 8th grader can sign such a contract (parents signing notwithstanding).

No contract, no nuthin'

A verbal is just an unwritten declaration that a kid has “accepted” an offer of a scholarship. Nothing is official until the kid signs his LOI, and he can’t do that until, um, his Junior year (I think).

So pretty much

the kids are only saying they’re interested in UK… why not just send them a brochure and avoid all of this bs?

You know why?

UK has to find SOME way to get in the news….if you can’t crack a Final Four or win a championship, one way is as good as another I guess. By the way, Crean seems to really be settling in – IU will be another nightmare for yUK. yeah, baby.
