Refs: No Burr in NCAA
http://gregg-doyel.blogs.sportsline.com/mcc/blogs/entry/5881996/7325922
I generally am not a fan of Doyel, but he has this tidbit that I had not seen anywhere else: Jim Burr is not working the NCAA tourney because of some background check procedural issue.
A little googling led me to this site, which has some detailed analysis of refs:
http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees
I have to think Jim Burr not being a ref in the NCAA tourney is good for us, but I think a talented math / statistics analysis guy (Phauz, statprof, quinn) could really figure out from the statsheet.com site which refs are great for us and which are terrible.
Go to it!
Can't wait for Thursday!

Wow
Here's some quick work on Mr. Burr and the Refs:
49 different refs were on the floor for a UofL game this year and 22 did more than one game.
Burr's five games were UK, Marq, Syr, Nova, and Pitt (BE tourney). That's 4 wins and a loss. Foul differential was actually +5 (+1 per game) meaning UL actually had a fouls called advantage with Burr.
Burr ranks 20th of the 49 on foul differential (7th/22 among those with 2+ games reffed)
On UofL win % (80% with Burr), Burr ranks 32nd/49 (12th/22 with 2+ games)
The interesting stat is number of fouls called:
Burr ranks #2 of the 49 refs with 45.4 fouls per game (vs. average of 36.7 fouls per game)
Of course, this was a bit biased by one rivalry game and another physical game that went into OT. Against UK a whopping 56 fouls were called.
Others: Marq (49), Syr (35), Nova (41), and Pitt (46)
Overall conclusion = Jim Burr is responsible for all bad things that ever happened to UofL, including injuries to Padgett, Palacios, Brian Brohm, Michael Bush, and Pervis Ellison. Now that he is out of the tourney, nothing left to do but hang the next banner.
