Plenty of good seats still available.

Nobody moving

on that out of bounds play

"The contact was after the pass"

Glad to hear that the color analyst wants to apply the rules arbitrarily only when he thinks it should be a foul.

3 second lag

between the radio and the TV. I hate that.

by Macadu18 on Dec 20, 2008 2:18 PM EST reply actions

I like

that there’s about 4 people in the crowd. It allows you to hear everything being said on the court and by the coaches. I can’t wait for the curse words to start flying.

Rick

uncharacteristically happy after a defensive breakdown

by cardkevin on Dec 20, 2008 2:22 PM EST reply actions

this has been good D by my gophers

L’ville looks like they are a step slower with the short time off.

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

by GopherNation on Dec 20, 2008 2:26 PM EST reply actions

Until Samardo

and Earl learn to kick the ball out of the double-teams to the open man, we’ll struggle to score.

Will

as they call him in Louisville!

Anybody else

watching this on FSN? The unintentional comedy from these two announcers is outstanding.

yeah Im really enjoying

these smooth feeds….its like there is an earthquake there or something

by twistedwedge on Dec 20, 2008 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

McGee has two fouls...

… would you have T-Will run the point? Or Preston? Or Delk?

by mabake02 on Dec 20, 2008 2:43 PM EST up reply actions

preston maybe?

I’ve lost all patience with Edgar. Same crap 3 years in…

by cardkevin on Dec 20, 2008 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

Come to think of it

TWill at the point would make for some interesting basketball.

Preston

By the way

Anyone else notice that Vince Taylor is over on Tubby’s bench? I hadn’t realized he was on their staff. That’s gotta help their game planning.

Falling behind

by sam34gtr on Dec 20, 2008 2:53 PM EST reply actions

telling comment...

“It’s clear to me that Louisville has superior talent level on the floor”……

so what’s the story?

by cardkevin on Dec 20, 2008 2:54 PM EST reply actions

At least TWill

brings em to halftime on a positive note

by twistedwedge on Dec 20, 2008 2:57 PM EST reply actions

Don't forget defense

Help side defense is killing us. We’ll pretty much leave anybody open under the basket these days. And the next play we’ll close out under the basket and leave somebody open on the arc. This is the worst defense I’ve ever seen a Rick Pitino team play. I’m very very very very worried.

by CARD_G6 on Dec 20, 2008 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

Rebounding and passing

Those are the keys to the 2nd Half, imho. Gotta get that extra pass before chucking the rock, guys. Lucky to be down only 5 (thanks T-Will). Now take advantage of it!

by CardsFanTX on Dec 20, 2008 3:01 PM EST reply actions

No one with more than

2 rebounds. No one with more than 1 assist

I thought Tubby would bring the D

Here’s hoping you guys have a solid second half.

Sincerely, good luck!

No question..

they are a better team than we are.

WKU all over again.

Every time we have to play a decent team it seems like we get over confident and we blow the game. Also Iverson can suck it.

by Red Rage on Dec 20, 2008 3:49 PM EST reply actions

agreed

this 05-06 all over again, simply because our coach creates a system that overworks our freshman mentally and physically, preventing them from contributing. why can’t we have a freshman that’s highly touted actually come in and do something good, instead of just getting lectures from rick about “microwave societies” and how freshman take a long time to develop. there’s freshman all over the country that contribute from day one, but never in rick’s system.

I just wish we

could have a season where we didn’t have to drop a bunch of december games to “get focused.” we can never have a uncesque type season where we come in hyped and live up to it from start to finish.

by jbrobe04 on Dec 20, 2008 3:52 PM EST reply actions

that's not true

we have great recruits, we just have a coach with a horrible system that destroys them mentally and physically so that they can’t contribute until the middle of their sophomore year

by davidson07 on Dec 20, 2008 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

davidson

I personally think you as Card fan are being too pesimistic about RP. He has already proven what a great coach he is. Granted his season with Caracter was very trying on him as well as the team. Pitino knows what he is doing with these guys. I think at this time the big heads need to forget that #3 rating they had preseason. Tubby is an excellent coach also and he is very content at Minn and Rick is happy in L-ville. And UK is glad to have Coach G. All parties are happy. Pitino will have L-ville ready when it means the most.

Observations

1. The offense stinks. It’s not just about shooting – the offense plain stinks.

2. What’s the deal with the press? Seriously, against a non-terrible team, I think UofL probably averages about 0.25 steals/game from the press. On the flip side, the press causes 2-4 fouls with either Jerry, McGee or Preston running down the back of a dribbling opponent and getting a foul. Delk fouling Hoffarber!?!?!? ACK!

3. ZOMG – the free throw shooting is HORRIBLE.

4. Does anyone feel comfortable with the ball in Samuels hands anywhere on the court except for on an uncontested dunk?

5. Has McGee ever delivered a good pass? He seriously drives and either (i) gets a layup blocked or (ii) delivered a pass at someone’s feet.

6. I thought this ended after Palacios left, but what is the deal with UofL’s PG dribbling up the court and passing it horizontally to the PF (Earl Clark) who is running up the floor 30 feet from the basket?

7. Here’s what I hate about college football: the lack of a playoff system. Here’s what I hate about college basketball: guys flopping on the ground getting call after call. That Busch guy fell on the floor 10 times and got 10 calls. On that 3 that Clark fouled the dude on, a 220 lb guy fell on the ground after getting his fingers tipped. Stupid.

as long as they think they can sleep for the first 30 minutes of the game and somehow pull it out in the last 10. It worked against Austin Peay, it WON’T work against any decent team.

by JimmyClifford on Dec 20, 2008 5:28 PM EST reply actions

lol you're dreaming

two blowouts by unranked teams? we’ll be out of the polls, or somewhere 20-25 at best. i hope this team realizes how big of failures they are and decides to actually start working.

by davidson07 on Dec 20, 2008 5:51 PM EST up reply actions

we're bad but...

davidson07, overreacting a little maybe? Yeah this team isn’t as good as we thought they were, but they still have a lot of potential. Why all the ragging on the coaching? Pitino is one of the all-time best coaches, he’s the only coach to ever lead teams from 3 colleges to the final four. Why do you assume it’s Pitino’s fault that we never have freshman that contribute a lot immediately. Have any of our hyped freshmen ever gone on to the NBA to prove they were underutilized in college? Lay off the coaching staff, Pitino has def. earned a lot of rope, and I’m sure he’s not happy with the effort either.

by Chris Redman is my hero on Dec 20, 2008 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

lol

what’s pitino done to make you so happy? his first 8 here have been no better than denny’s last eight (two trips to the sweet sixteen for each). of course none of our players go on to play in the NBA – he overworks them that most of them wash out of UofL. his offense is terrible, his defense (and press especially) resembles swiss cheese. but for whatever reason, the media’s decided he’s one of the “best coaches ever” though he doesn’t deserve it. we’ll enjoy another one-and-done in the tourney this year and then spend all summer salivating over how much talent is on our bench just for the injuries and the early season losses to start piling up again in 2009.

by davidson07 on Dec 21, 2008 11:41 PM EST up reply actions

Beginning to agree

But, let’s ee what happens with UK, then conference play….at the end of that, we can begin to hurl the appropriate rage

Go Cards!

by Red Rage on Dec 22, 2008 12:59 PM EST up reply actions

here's a question to you

Who would you get to replace Pitino that you think would do so much better? I know that Louisville holds some historical catchet, what with the new arena and everything, but are we going to get a hall of fame coach to come in here and coach? Both Denny and RP are hall of fame coaches. It’s not like Roy Williams is going to come coach here.

by Chris Redman is my hero on Dec 23, 2008 9:17 PM EST up reply actions

not sure bout this

I don’t actually know the numbers, but what was UK’s injury history with Pitino there? Is it just possible that our guys have had fluke injuries? TWill fucking up his knee had nothing to do with Pitino. Look around at most teams in NCAA and they’ll have at least one bad injury, I mean look at Ole Miss and UAB this year. I don’t think you can really blame injuries on RP.

by Chris Redman is my hero on Dec 23, 2008 9:21 PM EST up reply actions

Id say

over the past four games, someone on this team owes me a few hundred dollars. I’m not a hardass. They can all chip in. Twenty bucks a person. Everybody. Im looking at you, Lee Steiden.

by Peter McSheisty on Dec 20, 2008 5:59 PM EST reply actions

Forget rankings

and let’s start worrying about an at-large bid to the Dance. The Big East is a meat grinder every year, and we’re looking at finishing middle of the pack at best if today is any indication of things to come. With no quality wins to date, I sure hope RP can pull a few rabbits out his hat against teams with good RPI. Or (GULP!), this team might not only finish unranked, but without dancing shoes either. Jesus, I never ever ever thought I’d even consider such a possibility with all this talent. Sucks.

by CardsFanTX on Dec 20, 2008 6:43 PM EST reply actions

Good point

With Mississippi PG tearing his ACL and UAB down to 6 players, those teams will be awful this year and UofL will have ZERO quality non-conference wins.

by Quinn1979 on Dec 20, 2008 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

Bad TWill

I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. Any team that relies on Terrance Williams as its leader is in big trouble. He’s a wonderful defensive player and rebounds well, but he makes terrible decisions with the ball in his hands. His lazy inbounds pass in the first half epitomozed his career here.

Rick has already burned this team out. He’s put way too much emphasis on defense and overloaded the minds of the freshman. The players look joyless on the court, even in the wins. We’re in a position where we can’t lose any more nonconference games. We’re already playing to maintain a decent seed in the NCAA.

Somelse mentioned my big fear. I think we could be looking at a redo of the 2005-2006 season, but with slightly better results. I think I mentioned that here a few days ago. Until this team can figure out the offense, it’s in trouble.

by Whacker77 on Dec 20, 2008 7:53 PM EST reply actions

rick ALWAYS burns his teams out in december

remember how we always have like 2 or 3 guys out for the season by now?

by davidson07 on Dec 21, 2008 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

Just got home from the game

I should say that Minnesota had better grouping, but Louisville was representing better than BYU and the Gophers overall (I’ll leave ASU out of that equation since it was only 40 miles from campus.) It was great seeing that much red out here in the desert.

My seats were terrible so I can’t add too much to the game comments, but it sure seemed like a sloppy game.
