Resignation?

Is anyone else hearing the rumors that Steve Kragthorpe will resign if we lose Thursday night vs Rutgers? I have heard this from many people over the last week. I even had one person who said a "friend" of a booster told him that Kragthorpe is considering resigning.

I do not believe this for a second. First, Krag has the support of Jurich, who just by the way decides if he keeps his job or not. Also, why would he resign from a BCS school in the middle of a rebuilding era. This would not give him good creditability in attaining a collegiate head coaching job in the future. Krag has also been through, what we all hope, have been the two bad rebuilding years. He should have command of all players going into third year with many of Petrino's players gone, his system should be fine-tuned by now, and he goes into his third year with Jeff Brohm.

I cannot find a way to believe this, but let me know if any of you have heard any of this.

he'll be a tard to resign...

majority of us would love it… but he’d be best to get fired before he resigns… with the buyout clause…

so if he wants out… he damn sure make sure that TJ fires him so he gets his money…

and I think TJ would do it… if he asked…

I doubt he resigns…

i personally would LOVE it…

I see no reason to think that next year will be able to improve over this year’s team. We lose lots of talent on the defensive front (Heyman, Grady, Mitchell) and the offensive line (Wood, Bussey) and we will certainly have a an inexperienced QB. Kragthorpe had great talent his first year and pretty good talent this year and even with a very favorable schedule he could not make the team successful. (Remember, Memphis outplayed us and we were very lucky to win that one.) We do some things right, but penalties, turn-overs, dropped passes, failure to convert on 4th and 1, all comes back to haunt this team. Most of these areas are fixed by preparation and coaching. I don’t see it as a talent issue against the teams we play. Yes, we have had some injuries also, but during the Petrino years when someone got hurt, his backup was well prepared and ready to step in and play. Our wide receivers look like one of our worse coached groups and Kragthorpe is there position coach. I think the kid who caught the winning touchdown for Arkansas against LSU was a freshman. I know Kragthorpe deserves credit for what he accomplished at Tulsa, but there is little else on his resume that suggest to me that he would be a top notch head coach. During his tenure at Texas A&M as the QB and then OC they never won a bowl game and even were shut out one year with Kragthorpe as the OC. I think after that he bolted to the Buffalo Bills to be there QB coach. It’s not as if he had to beat out a lot of other coaches to get the Tulsa job. I wish another SMU would come calling and make him an offer. It would be the best way out. I am not surprised that Jurich is so supportive. As an AD his has nearly always been very supportive publicly about his coaches. Might be hard to find a new coach if as an AD he fires Kragthorpe after only 2 years and Jurich is partially responsible since he sort of made Kragthorpe keep the Petrino leftover coaches. The ship has sunk fast and it’s very sad.

When Brohm was hurt in the Gator Bowl the backup did not come in and lead us to victory. Give Petrino his due but stop with the myth making that every player he touched turned to gold. Petrino had talent in the two deep left to him by John L. Something he did not leave for Kragthorpe.

Just watch and wait a bit as the coaching carousel turns the next two weeks...

My gut, and several sources, have insinuated that this may be a function of

recruiting

Rutger’s outcome, and

reasonable financial opp presenting itself.

Does anyone else....

think it strange that this rumor started AFTER it was announced that Coach E is a candidate for Head Coach at a couple of schools? If TJ wants Ron there would only be a small window to get him before he takes something somewhere else…..just a thought.

Take a look at my blog , and you'll see when I first posted it--

it was before English…

but if K stays , Ron leaves for sure…

ok....

I stand (actually I’m sitting) corrected. Still think they are linked.

hard to guess....

I think we’ve all heard the rumors which to me sound a lot like wishful thinking on the paart of the fans. It does keep ringing in my ears that TJ said that the job is Koach’s IF he wants to come back……hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Could be that Krag is finally realizing that he is over his head and he IS. What pains me is that IF he does leave, our program will be totally decimated and I would feel sorry for the coach coming in. I am both sad and MAD that we have fallen so far – so fast. I just can’t see us beating Rutger’s but, as we all know thanks to WKU, in college sports – anything can happen and ususally does.

The complete lack of recruiting

is the most suggestive thing that says he may already be on his way out the door.

Bagdad Howie

Howie Lindsey says we’re a late recruiting school and everything is fine. He even said a few weeks ago that we were waiting on recruiting to take advantage of something other schools don’t have, Freedom Hall and Rick Pitino. WTF!

Jurich

TJ would be doing the program a favor by not publicly firing Kragthorpe. He should keep praising him in the media and then privately tell him to find another team and make it look like Krag’s decision.

Is this perception possible? I think so. It would help the program and I hope it’s what TJ has in mind, whether it’s this year or next.
