Basketball Themes
As the SGA Student Athletic Director, I wanted to reach out to the Card Chronicle community once again to tap into your creative geniuses.
My main goal this year has been developing student spirit. At what we commonly refer to as a 'basketball school', we have been planning to institute a lot of new initiatives during the basketball season.
Honestly, you won't see anything new until the UK game on Jan. 4th, because of the difficulty getting students out to games over break. However, once the nationally televised games start, we are going to institute some very creative 'themes'.
While we have a lot set (please feel free to contact me at tmjoel01@louisville.edu to discuss privately) I want to make sure we exhaust all options.
If anyone has any themes they have wanted to see, please pass along the idea. While I can't promise anything, there is the possibility you will see your theme realized at a game this year. Now how exciting is that.
Best theme idea receives free season tickets to baseball this year.
Second best theme gets half off tickets to the next Nappy Roots and/or Code Red concert

Denny Crum Day
We need to have a Denny Crum Day and all the programs sold should be rolled up, just like Denny used to.

MY thoughts
I was gonna give an idea until I seen the prizes…lol..I’m a die hard but the rewards are not worth it.I’m not to big on baseball, but honestly…NOBODY WANTS TO SEE NAPPY ROOTS (who are not from Louisville) OR THE OTHER GUY..Isn’t that a soda? I’m backing the two ideas above me but I felt like expressing that.We deserve better prizes as fans of the greatest basketball team in the country..literally!

Reggae night, eh? Get the Jamericans going! That would be fun, if they picked the right music
Slam Jam….dunkathon…. let the team slam a few….set up some shorter rims and let some little guys try some 360’s (liability waiver…). Show some of the great dunks of the past on the big screen.
Spirit of the 80’s? Music from the 80’s and the Champ game, video clips, cameos from past players…

Actually
I want to bobsled down the isles and then have the sled break down just as I’m about to make it to the court, and then I’d like to carry the sled to the Cardinal bird at midcourt while everyone slow claps, even the cold-hearted Bob Huggins and his players who picked a fight with me at the bar the night before.

Yeah I'm with you on this one.
Ya dead Mon?
If Huggy Bear is unavailable or unwillings, Bobby Gonzo could fill in.

You are all winners
Just to clarify…the prizes were a joke. Baseball games are free and this year students got community service hours for attending a Nappy Roots concert.
Also, Jamaican theme is already in the works. It is one that I am really excited about. We are talking about purchasing mass dreadlocks, building ’Samardo’s Sled’, kissing booth, lucky egg, steel drums, limbo in the aisles, giant bob marley pictures and all that good stuff.
Frankpos…I got something for your ‘Slam-a-thon’. There will indeed be a video montage of the greatest dunks. You will see what happens with this starting with the UK game.
I’m glad to see we are all on the same page…except those of us that put the Code Red CD on our Christmas List.

Yah mon! but... they don't mess with steel drums in Jamaica (that's the Bahamas)
and limbo…umm, no, not in Jamaica
Lucky Egg? Kissing booth? Hmmm
Perhaps it would help if you had someone who has been to Jamaica to assist some…

I remember a couple years ago
when we played memphis I believe, at home during the CUSA years. Before one game, they had up on the video the M. Ali/C. Clay rant about how he was from Louisville, KY the greatest city in the world. well, that made everyone just go crazy. I think we need to break that video out again this year when the kitty-kats come to play.
Anyone know if that speech/rant is on U-tube or something?

nevermind, I found it.

Cut to the 9:37 mark…. I know its only 9:58 long, but its the last thing he says.
Now imagine hearing that over the PA before a game. Gives me chills.

That's AWESOME
I wasn’t even born yet when that happened, but regardless that definitely needs to be shown at a game this year – in a very reverent way, of course, since Ali is Louisville royalty.

Wow
Can you imagine, right when they cut the lights that clip comes on, then fades into the Requiem for a Dream/ video montage they already play.

Ali
That video was great. I can all but promise you that you will see that on the jumbotron at some point this year.
A theme I have always been throwing around is the boxer theme, because of Ali. One of the issues is how to pull this off. My initial concept was to get custom made boxing gloves for the specific game and sell them as a collectors item to raise money for Parkinson’s Research. However, I worry about how well this would be received.
Does anyone else have any further ideas on how to make a boxing theme happen??
Also, we have a concept for the UK Game right now, but I would love to hear any other ideas that are out there.
Thanks for all the great stuff guys.

have the ladybirds wear gloves and boxing trunks and do a boxing related routine
also
black out the place…show a few of the greatest shots of ali…show an old crowd shot with the ali chant going ….and amplify and get the chant going in the Hall…and then suddenly spotlight the man at center court
