Anyone have a best play?????
My two, are the 4 quarters our D played……. and the the 69 yard TD pass.
Hunter played much better today.
Timeouts
Yet again, Kragthorpe demonstrates his anti-mastery of timeout usage. With :06 seconds left in the 1H, USF should have gone for one last quick throw in the endzone. Every UofL fan in the world wanted them to kick the FG instead of running a play. After marching out their FG unit, Kragthorpe calls a TO to “ice” the kicker. If I were Leavitt, I would have marched Grothe and Company back out there faster than you can say, “Go Bulls.”
Then, in a move that we better start getting used to, Kragthorpe called a second TO. Again, if I’m Leavitt, I’m going to rub Koach’s nose in it a little bit and try to get a quick score.
I simply do not understand this guy’s timeout strategy. He’s blundered it up before (hello, deadball TO at UConn this year), but I know he has at least one enormous TO blunder in him this year or next.
if it was that easy to score...
then why wouldn’t they go for it no matter what the situation is… that is where your argument is flawed my friend

Please explain
I don’t understand this comment. My only point is that a quick pass play from the 5 yard line would take 3-4 seconds thus giving them a FG opportunity in Play #2 as the worst case.
Oh, I see
I think I understand your comment saying that if USF had decided to kick a FG the first time, that they would thus kick the FG regardless of the TO situation. This is not true, I wish I had the specific example off hand (I think it’s an NFL example), but coaches have definitely decided to run a play after showing the FG team first. I think this decision change would be a combination of (i) rubbing the other coach’s nose in it and (ii) having more time to rethink their (original) bad decision to simply kick the FG.
Again, if I’m Kragthorpe, USF kicking a FG there is the best case scenario for UofL. By calling a timeout, he is setting the stage for a potential worst case (a TD or 7 points).
The best case scenario would be
stopping them on 4th and not letting them score at all. Though thats a bit more nerve racking
Wait, I dont think that was a 4th down call
If that was a 4th down with :06 seconds left, then I retract my entire argument, but I dont think it was.
Whew...
This win was great. No Doubt about it. I’ve got to Second Fitzi’s call that the our Defense won us this ballgame.
The D was stout the entire game. It was ugly to watch, but we contained Grothe (who, by the way, doesn’t seem like he has improved one lick since he was an overrated freshman) for the most part.
He died some “Grothe Shit” like the triple-sack-avoidance-scramble-first-down- completion and the get-hit-while-throwing wounded duck completion to the 5 yd line, but I thought we contained him for the most part. I really liked it when we dialed up the pressure in their last two posessions and forced him into a couple of sacks, an intential grounding and eventually the Johnny Patrick interception.
All I can say is thank you Ron English.
And if you were wondering if this result will be noticed on the national scene, while watching the OSU-PSU game I just saw that the Cantwell to Long 4th Q TD is a Pontiac Game Changing Performance Nominee on ESPN.com.
Its time to let everyone know that we’re on our way back.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
wooo
Sucks I missed most of the 2nd half, looked like a very exciting finish.
Makes the UConn lost that much worse — we’d be on the inside track for a BCS bid and 6-1!
But I think the big east BCS bid will be a complicated mess coming down to the last week. The WVU-UL game could be huge.
Scott Long sure is a weapon.
That was a solid win...
and …fun!!!!
fake punt, tons orf misdirection
gutsy drive by Hunter to take back lead
then 2 huge stops in last 6 min
But…9 yds total run by S Fla??!!
thank you Mr/. English….again
Love the play calling...
for this game. What was that play when Hunter walked with arms up toward the USF bench and one of our RB (Victor Anderson???) ran the ball. Too cool. I’ve never seen that before – glad it worked but I doubt they can use that play again……trickery and deceit -yes!!!! What a wonderful win for U of L and the fans. As Mike would say, we got the buzz back. I don’t think USF thought our defense would be as good as they are – got to love Ron English. I am NOT a Koach fan but was happy for him tonight too. The fans were loud and I was glad to see them really into the game. My 7-5 perdiction is looking better and better. How about Rutgers beating Pitt tonight? We are in the hunt – go CARDS !
Awesome win!
Whatever UofL pays Ron English, it isn’t enough. After the miracles he worked on our defense this year, I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that English walks on water. Super win, and one victory closer to a bowl game.

I know I'm looking too far ahead, but...
I’m a fan and not a player. I can afford to.
After what happened today in the Steel City, why am I even more anxious about playing in Piscataway than in Pittsburgh? The last two games on the schedule may turn out to be the toughest, but at least WVU is a home game.
Could we actually go 10-2? Go Cards!
That one felt good. Lets see if we can try and not bash our coach after this one, huh guys and gals? I think he’s earned a pass this week.
Somebody pass the salt and pepper.....
I’ve got some Krow to eat. I hope our run continues……go CARDS !
Gotta agree!
Give Koach credit for a win. Nice job.
One Pass for Krag...
…is OK for now. If he has to take the blame for the losses he should get credit for the wins. This was definitely a HIGH QUALITY win for Krag and the team.
Linda: we “stole” that trick play (Hunter walking away and then a direct snap) from Memphis after that did it to us. I hated it then, I love it now. I should go into politics…naw!
That play is not a new one...
Even some of the peewee kids run that play like that,

^^Same principal.
Speaking of peeweee we need to go ahead and get a commit from this kid (cody)

Anyways the game was great! The energy of the crowd was great (even though there were alot of seats vacant), the defensive energy was great, it reminded me of the WVU black out game two years ago.
The coaching staff did a great job I thought. The more aggressive play calling (i.e. fake punt and that Cantwell distraction). Running game is still the rock of the team. Once Bilal grows and can start successfully running between the tackles, people better really watch out. Hell they better watch out anyways.
Scott Longs return was really shown yesterday too. Man we needed him from the beginning.
I’m glad the coaching staff finally told the center to just snap the ball when he sees the defense jump off sides, those penalties really really helped.
All in all we need to keep growing and keep building on this success. The Big East is still wide open, and with the win yesterday we have started to creep the door closed.
The main improvement I can see that we need now is penalties. We had some really big plays that were called back b/c of penalties.
Oh yeah Vic Anderson needs to go ahead and run for president. I would vote for him.

Is it to early to start the Vic for Heisman 2009 campaign?
