Game Day: Louisville at Memphis
LOUISVILLE CARDINALS (2-2, 0-1) At MEMPHIS TIGERS (3-3, 1-2)

Game Time: 8 p.m.
Location: Liberty Bowl: Memphis, Tenn.
Television: ESPN
Announcers: Sean McDonough/Chris Spielman/Rob Stone
Favorite: Louisville by 6.5
All-Time Series: Louisville leads 21-19
Last Meeting: Louisville won 56-49 in 2004
Excitement Level: 5.9
We probably should have brought back the anxiety meter for this one, as I'm definitely more anxious about losing this one than I am excited about winning it.
Game Attire: Black Zack Stoudt jersey
I'm laying full blame for the UConn loss on the second-string hat. If the Tigers pull the upset then the jersey will almost assuredly be spending the rest of the winter in the closet. Do somethin', Stoudt.
Rock Keys Playing Alert Level: Magic Mint (It's not going to happen and you need to find a new player)
Predicted Star of the Game: Brock Bolen
How about triple digits and multiple visits to the endzone?

--"The season is obviously not over. Nobody is down in the dumps, but we're a little on edge to get back on the field again." --Eric Wood
--"I do not care for the Memphis State, nor am I particularly fond of their Tiger mascot." --Mike Rutherford
"There's some bad blood similar to Kentucky and Louisville. We know this is a big game for them, and it's a big game for us."--Eric Wood

If we lose
yes, it will be bad….to lose to a mediocre CUSA team, being from the Big East, I can’t imagine anything worse.

the long term with Memphis
Well, I’ll take a win against Memphis State any way it comes; even that comedy of errors game just played which for a change our defense was able to take advantage of.
No offense (pun here), but some of you just haven’t been around long enough to have an in grained hate for Memphis State (and yes it will always be Memphis STATE to me) as I and older fans do.
It all started for me in 1969, Lee Corso’s first year at the helm. UL was average. Memphis State was powerful and had expected a major bowl bid. This was before the bowl explosion and you had to be very good to get any bowl bid. Well, as usual for independents and small conferences, Memphis State got snubbed. They did not get the bowl bid they deserved that year.
The bowl bids were announced, Memphis was left out; and, they were highly pissed off.
The proceeded to stomp us into the ground to prove they should have gotten a bid and with around two minutes to go and the score at 62-19, Memphis is driving again to score. Corso grabs a white towel and throws it on to the field in surrender. It was nuts on the radio (this is also before games were routinely on TV everywhere). I don’t recall if Corso got a penaly or not; but, Memphis State drove on in to the cheers of the crowd to score that final TD. Memphis State 69, UL 19. I’ve lived for the day we could return that favor (and, I’m still waiting for one that lopsided in our favor).
I’ve heard from UL players that during football games there you can’t face the crowd as they throw coins and small batteries at the opposing teams sideline. I’ve seen similar things hit the floor on TV during basketball games. The Memphis State fans beat even UK’s blue necks for a class less act.
Sure, we haven’t played Memphis lately; but, I still hate ’em. And, I am sure they are still all pissed off they did not get to go to the Big East along with the rest of us.
