Top Performers in the Big East: Week 14
There were just four Big East teams in action on the last week of the regular season, so to be fair I'm only honoring seven players on offense and defense.
As far as the point totals for the "top performers" standings, there will be jumps between numbers one and two, three and four, and five and six so the points for this week will be distributed as follows:
First- 10
Second- 8
Third- 7
Fourth- 5
Fifth- 4
Sixth- 2
Seventh- 1
OFFENSE
7. Mike Teel, QB, Rutgers
Teel utilized the deep ball early and often against Louisville, finishing the game 21-of-32 for 265 yards with a pair of touchdowns.
6. Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
His final collegiate game was far from his most impressive statistically, but he did what he had to do to ensure that he went out a winner, hitting on 12-of-22 attempts for 237 yards with a touchdown.
5. Bilal Powell, RB, Louisville
It was a freshman who sparked Louisville to a victory on Senior Day as Powell took the game over in the second half, carrying 13 times for 91 yards and a touchdown.
4. Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers
Rice capped an extremely productive season by carrying 30 times for 120 yards and three touchdowns.
3. Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
Britt showed why he's one of the better pro prospects in the league, hauling in 12 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
2. Brock Bolen, RB, Louisville
Louisville's stagnant running game finally came alive thanks in large part to Bolen, who carried 13 times for 117 yards and two scores.
Offensive Player of the Week: LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh
Despite everyone on the field knowing that the ball was going to touch his hands on most plays, McCoy managed to carry 38 times for 148 yards, and accounted for 158 total yards.
DEFENSE
7. Lamar Myles, LB, Louisville
It was only appropriate that Myles led U of L in tackles in the Cards' final game. The junior middle linebacker made eight tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage.
6. Courtney Greene, S, Rutgers
Greene led Rutgers in tackles with 11.
5. Scott McKillop, LB, Pittsburgh
The nation's leader in tackles made a team-high nine, including one TFL, as Pitt produced the most impressive defensive performance of the season.
4. Mortty Ivy, LB, West Virginia
Ivy did his best to slow down LeSean McCoy, making ten tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
3. Eric Foster, DT, Rutgers
After a season-long slump, Foster finally showed up for Rutgers' regular season finale and made three tackles for loss, two sacks, and forced a fumble.
2. Marc Magro, LB, West Virginia
Magro led all Big East defenders in tackles this week with 17.
Defensive Player of the Week: Joe Clermond, DE, Pittsburgh
Clermond had his biggest game of the year when Pitt needed it the most. Playing in his final collegiate game, he made eight tackles, two sacks, 2.5 TFL, forced two fumbles, and recovered another one.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Art Carmody, K, Louisville
Carmody set the NCAA record for points by a kicker with a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter, and then won the game with a 33-yarder in the fourth. He was also 5-of-5 on PATs.
Freshman of the Week: LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh
Pretty confident he's got a shot at being a freshman All-American.
Team of the Week: Pittsburgh
When you end your biggest rival's shot at a national championship by beating them at home when they were favored to win by four touchdowns, you're probably going to get the nod here.
The final "Top Performers of the Season" standings will be tabulated/released later today. Try not to get too excited.
