Around SBN: PHOTOS: Mike Moser's Dunk Face Is Spectacular

Open Thread: Louisville vs. Morehead State

Two years ago the Cards were the only team to play on Christmas Eve, this year it's the day after Christmas and U of L is once again the only show in town.

Here's to this guy getting the first of hopefully many field goals tonight...while wearing goggles.

Glad they worked on the fundamentals...
...but I think it caused T-Will to miss some spectacular dunks.

In the first half T-Will invented a new dunk called the "Drop the Baby".  Made up for it in the 2nd half though.

Merry Xmas!

Valvano
I thought Bob Valvano was about to cry when Sosa and T-Will missed that crazy 2 on 1 fast break alley-oop attempt. I first thought he was going for the announcer "take the easy lay-up" fundamental cliche rant, but then after his Al Michaelesque "some of our audience was really interested in that last possession", I realized he had money on the game and the 23 1/2 point spread that Will Scott busted with that last three to pull it out for the UL backers.

I did like his determined power dunk over
that guy in the second half.

An episodic dunk showtime will spark a crowd

but "runs" are what ignite a crowd.

Can't sustain a run when you aren't consistent at shooting--or at keeping the other team from scoring.

Our team D in the first half was poor again--we allowed Morehead to shoot 47% and 44% from 3.

We finally denied the 3 better in the second half and pressed effectively.

But after we got to a 20 pt lead we got sloppy from that point out.  So we basically beat them by the 23 points we were favored by.

Jerry Smith looks better...Andre playing steady and under control.

But Edgar still looks lost...DC and Earl still don't defend or rebound the way they should...

Pitino announced pre-game that Padgett's coming back was not because he was healed fully.  David has basically just decided to play in pain, because apparently the risk of it re-fracturing now is just as great as if he waited another few wks.

Frankly, I think he (and RickyP) realizes the team needs everyone possible--because right now it is not a good team, and would take a bad beating in the Big East this year.

The introduction of Ali to the crowd was great-- don't remember them doing that before at Freedom Hall.

Twill and Edgar
need to figure out what basketball is all about. Twill is too into the show. He works hard but he plays like a 9th grader. Taking unbalanced shots, making passes to people that Johnny Bench couldn't catch. Sosa......   We're better with him on the bench handing McGee a towel. What a waste of talent. A shooting guard mentality with a point guards body. I don't know if that will change.

I don't see
Valvano as the type of person that would bet on games. Call me Naive.

I don't either
I just thought it was amusing that he was thinking about that at the end of the game and actually said some something on air. It drives me nuts when announcers act like spreads do not exist, especially when the only people who were really watching that game at the end were Chichester's parents and gamblers.

Valvano and Soso
Have you ever listend to the Bob and Will show on A.M. 790?  Those two only talk about wins and losses in terms of covering the spread ( and they're not right most of the time).

Edgar Soso is just not the finisher he was last year.  I really dont see his game being all that different this season.  He put his head down and took it the basket last year and is doing the same thing this year, except the shot isn't falling.  He's obviously in some sort of soph slump, but if his shots were taken as part of the offensive flow more would drop.

Honestly, the three's are def a plus, but McGee has impressed me because of his defense. It will mean alot in Big East games to be able to play a little D on guys like Dominic James.  Esp if Sosa can contribute on the offensive end.  The two could be a great one-two punch of offense and defense.

Our team needs about 15-20 more points to come from ANYWHERE on the team and we would have alot more success.  We cannot beat teams barely scoring in the 60's with the defense, as Frank correctly pointed out, that is played down low.
